Leo Doherty was a terrific athlete throughout all his years in Summerhill, representing the school with distinction in soccer, cross country and track. In September of his Leaving Cert year, Leo made a decision to change his athletics coach and to make running a priority for his final year specically concentrating on 800m event
The results were excellent and in 2018 Leo had a standout year on the Irish athletics scene.
In January, he served notice of his improved performance level taking second place at the National Indoor U19 championships in a new pb of 1.58.5. Following further training Leo went on to achieve even greater success during the 2018 outdoor track season. In May, Leo was very much part of the successful Summerhill team that won the senior Connacht Schools athletics championship winning the 800m in a new pb of 1.55.8 and leading the 4x400 relay to victory also. His 800m time at this stage represented a massive 7 second improvement on his 2017 time.
Further national success followed at the All-Ireland Schools finals in June where Leo took bronze in a very tight tactical finish. By now, Leo knew that he could compete with the very best in his age category in Ireland and he showed this once again with another superb second place finish in the 800m again at the National outdoor U19 championships, lowered his pb to 1.55.3. This was a great way for Leo to end his season.
Having completed his leaving cert last summer Leo continues to make waves in Athelic world and he has started the 2019 season well with a silver medal in the National Indoor U20 championships and we wish him the best in his endeavours

Well done to our senior Gaelic team who competed in the national 7s competition in DCU.
After good wins over Patrician college (Kildare) and St. Benildas (Dublin), the lads came out of their group in 2nd place behind a strong OLSS Castleblayney (Monaghan)
That set up a second round tie with Ardscoil na Trionoide (Kildare) where the lads turned on their best performance of the day. A comfortable win sent our side through to the quarter final.
Castleknock Community College were the opponents in the quarter final. After the sides couldn’t be separated in regulation time, the game went to penalties. Unfortunately, the Dublin side came out on top before reaching the final of the competition
On a very warm day in DCU, the team can be proud of their performances.
Standout performers for the team were Patrick Maher, Fionn Connolly and Conor Kevany
