Last October a small group of Summerhill students took part in an Erasmus trip to Madrid and Zaragoza in Spain, the first of its kind for Summerhill College. The students had the opportunity to experience Spanish culture first hand and mix with students from Spain and Italy. They spent time with Spanish families practicing the language and learning about day to day life. They were also fortunate to experience the Festival of Pilar - an annual festival celebrated in the city of Zaragoza in honour of the patron saint of the city, Our Lady of the Pillar. The trip was a great success and an invaluable experience for the students. Students reviews of the Erasmus Spain Trip 2019 “I really enjoyed experiencing the Spanish culture - food, music, traditional dress, customs. The Plaza de Toros in Zaragoza was the highlight of the trip for me.” “I really enjoyed the trip as a whole. The insight into food and culture was incomparable, and really enjoyable. The activities were great.” “We all got on well together, especially with the students from Spain and Italy. Overall everything on the trip was fun and enjoyable and we look forward to May when the Spanish and Italian students come to Ireland.” For more information on how to apply for the Erasmus programme in Summerhill College email info@summerhillcollege.ie.
