Best wishes to our students who will represent Ireland in Strasbourg

On Friday October 24th, a team of 10 students from Summerhill College will travel to the European Parliament in Strasbourg as EPAS junior ambassadors, they will represent Ireland as the winners of Euroscola 2018. Here, from the benches of the European Parliament’s Hemicycle, the winners from all 28 European Union member states will get the unique opportunity to experience the EU decision making in the form of a multilingual European youth parliament. Students will sit in MEP seats in the Chamber of the Louis Weiss building where, in working groups, they will have round table discussions on various EU themes and topics. They will adopt a resolution that’s its rapporteur defends in plenary and present their findings and conclusions. We wish the members of the team Tom Ryan, Joseph Shannon, Padraic McGowan, Oscar Toomey, Paul Gallagher, Adam Rattigan, Conor McDermott, Conor Walsh, Charlie O’Donnell and Anthony Fidgeon all the best in their day in Parliament. We thank their teacher and mentor Ms Casey for all her work in organising this trip for the students.
Gold For The Senior Swim Team

Congratulations to the senior swim team who put in a fantastic performance last weekend at the Connacht Senior Schools Championships to take gold in the 100m freestyle relay. Summerhill had numerous individual and team successes on the day at both junior and senior level. Well done to all swimmers involved.
CIC Kayak Club Claim Inter Schools Title

Congratulations to Summerhill kayak club whose 27 paddlers claimed the overall prize in the inter schools race against the Grammer, under the coaching and guidance of Mr. Moore and Mr. Convey. Alex McGourty's kayak was generously donated to the race by his parents and will now stay in the school for the coming year to help our young paddlers in their training. Many thanks to Tommy Cradock, race organiser and to Sligo Sport and Recreation for supporting such a large involvement and to Call Of The Wild for their generous sponsorship.
Junior Certificate Business Studies Awards 2018

Congratulations to all of the Summerhill students who attended the Junior Certificate Business 2018 Awards ceremony last week in NUI Galway. Cian Connell, Stephen Doyle, Sam McDermott, David Haw Tay and Michael Morgan received their awards for achieving an A grade in Business Studies as part of their Junior Certificate exams. Over 320 students from 75 different schools were recognised on the night for their outstanding achievement. Well done to all those involved. Pictured below are Cian Connell and Stephen Doyle.

TY Charity Collection For The North West Simon Community

The TY students were busy yesterday, Thursday 4th October, as they helped out with the North West Simon Community Annual Street Collection. Many of them braved the rain as they spent the day in various locations around town doing the bucket collection for this very worthy cause. Well done boys on the great work.
