Today we celebrated National Drop Everything a Read Day. LCF pledged 12,000 minutes of reading to the challenge. To achieve this the whole school listened to Edgar Allan Poe's short story 'The Tell-Tale Heart', a crime story that straddles the genres of horror and gothic. It was lovely to take time out from the busy school day to enjoy a gripping story.

Students commit to our School Kindness Pledge

There was great excitement this week when after nearly two years of Covid Restrictions, our first and second years got their chance to add their handprints to our School Pledge Wall. There was high energy and enthusiasm as these students were invited by our senior Anti-Bullying Ambassadors to seal their commitment ‘to making our school a happier place for everyone by treating every member of our school community with real kindness and respect.’ As a sign of this commitment, students sign the Pledge Book and then add their handprint to the wall. The wording of the pledge and the Pledge Wall was the innovation of our student-led Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, and this initiative was inaugurated in 2017 by our ABAs. A big congratulations to our first and second years who join all the other students who have made this pledge since 2017. It is wonderful to see them embrace and aim to adhere to the values identified by the students themselves as central to daily life in our school. Well done everyone!

Dear Parent or Guardian This has been an eventful term in school. Most year groups have by now been able to enjoy trips away, summer sports are now up and running and we are looking forward to an event filled end of year. Many of our students have enjoyed great success: Ella Grogan was placed 3rd in Mental Health Ireland Art Competition, Holly Walsh was placed 2nd in the 'Story of your Stuff' competition (EPA), Sarah Byrne and Isobel Field are heading to the Netherlands to represent Ireland in U16 Hockey, Lauren Healy won the All Ireland High Jump and our very successful Debating, Hockey, GAA and Basketball teams. Congratulations to all of these students, their commitment to their art or sport is outstanding. Well done to our TYs on their production of We will Rock You. It was great to see the show after two years of Covid. The show was fun filled and brought enjoyment to all. Seventeen of the class 2021 have been awarded Entrance Scholars awards by Trinity and UCD. The students achieved outstanding results in their Leaving Cert and are now studying the courses of their choice in University. At a wonderful event in UCD this week, the students spoke fondly of their time in Loreto College and of how they miss the school. Uniform: After Easter we are looking forward to returning to full uniform. Students will now be required to wear their school uniform every day at school and PE uniform on the day(s) that they have PE only. If students have sport after school, they may now change after school. We welcome this as part of our emergence from Covid restrictions. I wish all of our 6th year students well as they head into their oral language exams and their music practicals over the coming days. They have prepared thoroughly for these. They should enjoy a well deserved rest after Thursday, so that they return refreshed and ready for the final term. Congratulations to our 3rd year students who have now received the results of their mock exams. Mock exams provide great preparation for the exams in June. Again they should enjoy a good rest over the break whilst balancing this with some revision. I wish to thank our teachers and staff for their dedication, our parent school association for their ongoing support of the school and I wish all of the school community every good blessing over the Easter Break. Yours sincerely Bernadette Prendiville, Principal
