Catholic Schools Week was celebrated last week with many activities taking place throughout the week for various year groups. On Monday all 5th year students had the opportunity to attend a special Mass in the Cathedral to mark the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. Throughout the week during Transition Year and 3rd Year R.E. classes students got the chance to take part in a space race quiz using Socrative on the Chromebooks with some delicious prizes up for grabs! Each day a reflection of the day was read out over the school PA system and a question was given. By answering these questions students could try to crack the code and win the prize on Friday. Well done to Lorcan Southcombe (3rd Year) who won the grand prize. On Wednesday afternoon some of our TY students visited Nazareth House to play bingo with the residents. On Thursday afternoon we held our annual Grandparents Day celebration with a special liturgy for 1st years and their grandparents. Finally, on Friday, during R.E. classes, students had the opportunity to make St Brigid's crosses while 6th year students enjoyed an in house retreat morning facilitated by Tobar Nua. Also on Friday 17 first year students took part in the Diocese of Elphin inter schools quiz to celebrate Catholic Schools week 2020. Well done to everyone involved, and huge congrats to the winners Matthew D'Arcy, Mateo Grataces, Aodhán Shovelan and Samuel Regan. Many thanks to St Cuans for hosting the event, the prizes and for the lovely reception received. Many thanks to all involved in running the activities throughout the week especially the Religious Education department.

On Wednesday 22nd of January a number of our Pope John Paul II award students went to Sligo Grammar School for our annual gathering to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. A whole school assembly was held in Calry church by the staff and students of the Grammar school to mark the occasion. The ceremony was presided over by Rev Patrick Bamber with Mr Keogh delivering an inspiring address to all gathered about having hope for the future and the things that unite us all in life. After the ceremony our JPII students gathered with a number of TY students from Sligo Grammar school for some discussion and refreshments. We are most grateful to Sligo Grammar School for welcoming us and continuing this tradition.

Sli na Slainte,
Continuing on from our CPR for schools collaboration with the Irish Heart Foundation we have now established a Sli na Slainte schools signposted walking route in and around the college. There are three routes, an internal 260m route, an external 600m route within the school grounds and our traditional school mile route which is outside the school grounds.
The routes within the grounds are available to all students during our break times. The external route is reserved for supervised classes or if students wish to follow a measured walking route outside of school hours.
Thanks,
