History trails around our town began last week. 4th class began by walking to the Watering Gates where 120 years ago 1000 cavalry horses would drink from the Liffey daily. We then made our way to the town hall which was formerly a church for British soldiers based in the Newbridge. We moved on to Bank of Ireland and compared photographs of our town with how it looks now. Well done to all the children involved!

NPC wants to hear from children in Primary School!
We are inviting children to share their experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic, restrictions, school closures & their hopes for the future as we move forward. Children can choose how they want to share this with us; they could write down their thoughts, write a story or poem, send photographs, paint or draw pictures, dance, write a song or music, record a video or a short voice clip - it’s completely up to them!
Please see our website for further information, including how to send in your child’s submission www.npc.ie/news-events/npc-wants-to-hear-from-children-in-primary-school
Standardised Testing
Created : 19 May 2021, 10:15 AM
Archived : 19 Jul 2021, 12:00 AM
Apologies this message was to be sent on Monday 17 May but failed to deliver.
In line with Dept. of Education and Skills requirements children will undertake standardised tests in Literacy and Numeracy in the coming week. Literacy test will take place on Tuesday 18 May and Numeracy test on Tuesday 25 May.
This year we are using the new Drumcondra Primary Tests. These tests were redeveloped in 2017 and were re-normed so that the results would better reflect today's children. This may mean that you will see a difference in your child's score from previous tests. An information leaflet from The Educational Research Centre is below.
The past 14 months have been very tough for everyone in our school community m different reasons. Our children have shown tremendous resilience and have embraced every day with a smile on their face and a positive attitude. Standardised tests will not measure any of this. They will give a snapshot of a child's ability in literacy and numeracy on a particular day at a particular time. While these results will be used to help us support your child in the future it is not the only measure we have on your child's ability.
The results will communicated to you in the end of year school reports which should begin to arrive on 21st June.
