Book Week 2021

This week in St Conleth and Mary’s we celebrated World Book Week. Due to Covid, our celebrations this year looked very different to those of other years but nonetheless we were delighted to mark the occasion in some way.
We kicked off proceedings with Mr Lynch’s Friday challenge where children were asked to design alternative covers for their favourite books. They were also asked to think of 5 questions they would like to ask the main character in their chosen book. We were blown away by the standard of the work submitted and are sure that we have some budding illustrators in our midst.
On Thursday our second class children who are now back in school got the opportunity to dress up as characters from their favourite books. Well done to everyone for the creativity and imagination shown by coming up with costumes without access to shops!!! Harry Potter was a dominant theme this year. Even Mr O Sullivan got in on the act. Unfortunately we have no pictures of him but we can show you some pictures of our second class stars.
We also held a Book Quiz via Seesaw and one winner was chosen from each participating class. Winners will receive their prizes in the post this week so keep an eye out for the postman in case you are one of our winners.
Children developed their oral language skills by sharing information about their favourite books during their weekly Zoom calls. Some classes made bookmarks (Mr O Reilly’s 4th class made brilliant monster ones) while others did book reviews, made collages, created characters and completed activities from a World Book Day Choice board.
In recognition of our efforts, every child in the school will be given a world book day book token. This token can be redeemed in most book shops and will be given to students on their return to school.
Thanks to all of our teachers and pupils for their hard work in making World Book Week happen this year.Hopefully, by the time next year’s World Book Week comes around, things will have returned to normal and we can celebrate it in style.

From Thursday 4 March please enter the school from the gates beside the PBS secondary school. A one way system for entry and exit will be in operation and this will be marked. Children will now enter and exit the school through the library door. Please collect your children from outside the library door at 2.50pm. Mr. Lynch and Ms. Conway will be in the yard in the morning and evening to assist. The photos below show the entry/exit gates and the door the children will enter/exit through.
Thank you for your cooperation in this. I'm sure it will not be the last change to our entry and exit as we continue with our school building project.

We are very much looking forward to having 2nd class return to school tomorrow. We have been making preparations to make sure everyone is as safe as they can be when they return. There are some arrangements that we would like to bring to your attention prior to the children returning tomorrow;
- please enter via the main gate (the gate opposite the church) from 8.55am
- we would ask that parents/guardians NOT come onto the grounds tomorrow morning. Please bring your child to the main gate and have them walk in. We hope to change this as soon as we can but would ask that you cooperate with us on this for the moment.
- if you do have to come onto the school grounds for any reason a face covering must be worn
- the school office is available from 9.30am
- children can wear their uniform or tracksuit
- we will be updating our arrival and collection procedures tomorrow morning and we will inform you as soon as we can
- please complete the return to school form on the school app
