A new on-line course for parents: ‘Switching on for Learning: Helping 2nd Level Students to become Independent Learners’
Created : 14 Sep 2020, 5:41 PM
Archived : 14 Nov 2020, 12:00 AM
Designed by experienced teacher, educator and author, Dr. Fidelma Healy Eames, PhD, the purpose of this new Online course is to ease students back to school and to make learning easier for them. We achieve this by enabling students to embark on a journey of self-discovery so they can learn to be learners by:
(i) figuring out how they learn best through the various exercises and (ii) equipping them with a range of study, learning and mindset strategies that they can apply to their own work.
Throughout students are engaged in self-evaluation and we address student wellbeing issues, in enabling them to become independent self-directed learners.
This webinar is highly relevant to parents concerned about their young person’s education, teachers too.
In the Webinar Student and teacher testimonials including samples of the content will be shared across the 6 course modules:
1. Knowing your Brain, Learning Styles
2. Getting Motivated, Concentration
3. Managing Time, Learning to Plan
4. Reading to Learn, Summarising
5. Memory & Recall, the Study-Review System
6. Sitting the Exam, Managing Stress

1st Year Parents: CAT4
Created : 11 Sep 2020, 2:51 PM
Archived : 11 Nov 2020, 12:00 AM
As we were unable to invite our 1st Years in as planned before the summer, we are hoping to complete CAT4s over the next few weeks. The CAT4 helps to identify a student's strengths, areas for improvement and learning preferences. The information generated by the CAT4 is useful for parents, teachers and students to support students in their learning and in reaching their full potential. On the day the student does the CAT4, they will go to a computer room with their classmates and they will be given very simple instructions. There is no preparation needed other than bringing a pencil and paper for rough work and a pair of earphones if desired. The students will get plenty of breaks and assistance with instructions so it is a comfortable and relaxed environment. The school day proceeds as normal otherwise. In the presentation link sent out to you on Tuesday with other 1st Year information, the CAT4 will be explained in more detail.. Class times are as follows:
Wed 16th Sept 10.46 -1.40 - B1 and C1 (breaks included)
Thurs 17th Sept 9.28 - 12.42 - L1 and M1 (breaks included)
Wed 23rd Sept 8.30 - 11.44 - P1 (breaks included)
The girls will be reminded in advance!
