6th Years- Mental Health Day

Yesterday the sixth years planted their plantable bookmarks. This links in with Mental Health Day, which took place on Saturday. The bookmarks contained wildflower seeds and the idea is that the girls reflect on their growth during recent tough times and their hopes for the future. All the seeds need to grow is a little water and soil, a symbol of how we don’t need much at all to blossom – just a little care.

Well done to all out students who engaged so positively with our Mental Health talk on Wednesday. As World Mental Health day is this Saturday we will be continuing with this theme in Monday's PasCare class. Please see some resources and videos on various related topics at : www.walkinmyshoes.ie/campaigns/wimslive Thank you to all the students who expressed interest in the Gardening project with Ms. Kinsella. As we are over subscribed a raffle will be held and the girls whose names come out of the hat will be notified. Please see some notices for the week ahead. 1. List of students for the first round of toastmasters was posted on Google classroom. There are still something to be sorted out but the provisional start date is the Thursday after midterm break. The students will be notified closer to the time if this is the official start date. All other students who applied have been also drawn out of a raffle and are on a waiting list. It is envisioned that there will be more rounds of the programme, but this depends on the success of the initial round. 2. Next week is Maths week. In honour of this on Thursday all TYs are going out on a Maths themed activity. On Thursday your daughter should wear her runners and OLS official PE gear. As good weather is not a certainty she must bring her school jacket and a change of bottoms. She must wear her official OLS bottoms into school. The change can be a non OLS tracksuit or leggings but must be in either black or navy and no ripped effect or sheer leggings. Only students with the excursions permission slip submitted are eligible to go on the trip. Your daughter has been spoken to and given alternative methods of submitting permission. As her bag will be left in the halls for the duration of the activity, she should not leave valuables in it. 3. After the midterm break the TYs are going to be starting on the Knovember Knithathon. Knitting needles and wool can be bought in Deals, or Mr. Price, or similar shops for very cheap. As we cannot share materials this year students are encouraged to buy their own. 4. A reminder to the students involved in the St. James' project, they must have their groups submitted by Monday.

A huge congratulations to June Polgolla in B5 who has had great success in the scientific field this term. She has received the Science Foundation Ireland Best Project Award, Specsavers Making a Difference Award, and the Environmental Award in the Sci Fest @ College 2020, and will be representing Our Lady's in the National Finals in November 2020. The future of women in STEM subject seems very bright. We are so proud of your achievements, June and we wish you the best of luck in the National Finals next month.

A huge well done to Sarochinee Ashe, B5 who has demonstrated incredible kindness and determination during COVID-19 by baking 4 lemon drizzle cakes per week for the staff of CHI in Temple Street Hospital. She did this without looking for any support or credit. The staff now look forward to break time on Friday when they can sit down with a cup of coffee and a treat from Sarochinee. We are so proud of you Sarochinee. Well done!

B1 were the class with the best punctuality in the school for the month of September. They received treats for all their efforts at getting into school and class on time. Well done girls!
