On Thursday 24th of November the annual diocesan ceremony for the Pope John Paul II Awards took place in Summerhill College. All schools in the diocese who took part in the award were in attendance. Our special guests on the evening were Bishop Kevin Doran, Brother Philip Mulyrne and Mr Barry McMahon (Supreme Knight of the Knights of Saint Columbanus). Eighteen students from Summerhill received the Gold Award and two of our student's, Brian Kielty and Mark Muldoon, received the Papal Cross Award. To complete the Gold Award one must commit to twenty weeks of social awareness and parish involvement. To complete the Papal Cross Award one must have already completed the Gold Award and commit to twenty-six weeks of social awareness and parish involvement. We are extremely proud of all our award recipients and the time and effort they invested to receive the award. Congratulations to all who received their award on the night.

A massive congratulations and well done to Conor Curley, a TY student, who recently passed his 'Masters' level in the Microsoft Office Specialist Exams.
This is a superb achievement as Conor did this without having to re-take any of his exams, which has never happened before. In the 6 years that TY students in Summerhill have been doing these exams Conor has also managed to complete his exams quicker than any other student ever has!
Conor has now been entered for a place in the regional finals of the Microsoft Office Specialist awards due to his high scores and the level of speed in which he completed his exams.
Well done to Conor and his teacher Mr. Whelan and we wish Conor the very best of success in the competition.
