Prayer at Study Time
Lord, I know you are with me and love me.
Give me peace of mind as I prepare for this time of study.
Help me to focus on my books and notes.
Keep me from all distractions so that I will make
the best use of this time that is available to me.
Give me insight that I might understand what I am studying,
and help me to remember it when the time comes.
Above all, I thank you for the ability to be able to study
and for the many gifts and talents you have given me.
Help me always to use them in such a way
that they honour you and do justice to myself.
Amen

CD Launch

On Wednesday May 24th the ASD classes held a launch party for their CD “The Tale of Blackheart”. This event was the culmination of a year of collaboration with Music Generation teachers Karl Burthom and Dave Flynn. Over six weeks in October and November the students worked with Karl on writing melodies and lyrics which resulted in a fantastical tale about a greedy pirate named Blackheart. They then had the opportunity to perform their song in St.Angela’s College as part of the seminar Con Tutti: Music Education and Autism.
After Christmas we began to record the song using the schools recording studio with the help of TY student Conor Bastible. The students learned a lot from this experience and thoroughly enjoyed it. The CD launch took place in St.Killians classroom and was attended by parents, staff members and Autism Service personnel. The students performed two songs “The Tale of Blackheart” and the Chuck Berry classic “Johnny B. Goode” which were both met with much foot tapping and applause. Guests were then presented with their own copy of the CD to take home.
