Last weeks European Week of Sport and National Fitness Day were a great opportunity to remind everyone how active a school we really are!
Our target at the start of the week was, through various activities, to cover the equivalent of the full 2500km of The Wild Atlantic Way.
Amazingly, we not only covered the whole distance but beat it by 55km! Covering 2555km in total.
Well done to everyone involved and remember to continue your active lifestyles!

TY Poetry Slam Workshops
Created : 29 Sep 2017, 10:10 AM
Archived : 29 Nov 2017, 12:00 AM
During the week all TY classes got the fantastic opportunity to take part in a poetry workshop with award winning poet and founder of Inspireland Stephen Murray.
Stephen is regarded as Ireland's leading poetry workshop provider for young people and his work has featured on RTE, TV3, BBC as well as in The Irish Times and Irish Independent.
This workshop helped build the student's confidence in their literary skills as well as public speaking and more advanced rhetorical techniques.
On the day students got the chance to explore their creative writing skills and take part in a poetry slam. They were encouraged to write without judgement, grades or barriers and produced pieces of work about issues that affect them directly such as self image, equality, bullying, addiction, social media, identity and much more. They then finished off the day by typing up their pieces of work in the computer rooms.

The students had a very active and hands on day, learning experience in the areas of what makes good service, personal hygiene, and understanding the different departments in the hotels.
In depth training was undertaken in the following areas;
Customer Service - greeting and seating, taking orders, serving food, dealing with complaints, clearing the table, and presenting the bill.
Know Your Drinks - how to serve wine, tray service, take a drink order.
Know Your Food - special diets and allergies and how to upsell products from the menu.
The students also went through basic theory and spent a lot of time doing practical situational training, learning first hand basic skills required for the industry.
Many thanks to Fiona from Hospitality Skills Ireland and all involved for facilitating this course.
