The competition is open to students aged 14-18. Students should submit a 5-minute or 600-word speech on one of the following topics: · Current efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt are not enough to tackle the speed and scale of climate change, meaning that some losses and damages from climate change are inevitable. Women and children in particular on the front line. Rich countries should pay their fair share for the loss and damage their energy consumption has caused in poorer nations. · Care, both paid and unpaid, while largely a burden for women, is the responsibility of everyone in society and there should be a human right to care. Discuss. · Education is a right for all children. Beyond aid and charity, what are the ways that the Irish government could support children accessing education (for example through tax structures, debt and economic policies) Now in its 9th year, the competition is a great opportunity for students to research global issues, take action on important human rights issues and to improve and hone their writing skills. We hope that this year’s competition will be of interest to you and your students. To enter, email your submissions to me at comms.ireland@actionaid.org. The deadline is Friday 13th January 2023. Prizes and final · 15 regional finalists will be invited to submit a video of themselves reading their speeches. · 6 finalists will then be chosen to go forward to the national final, each winning a €50 OneforAll voucher and will go forward to the national stage. · The finalists will be invited to attend a final in Dublin in March 2023. · One overall winner will receive a €500 OneforAll voucher and their teacher will receive a €100 OneforAll voucher. Comhairle na nÓg are child and youth councils in the 31 local authorities of the country, which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies. In light of the fact that Comhairle na nÓg is for young people under the age of 18 and who therefore have no other voting mechanism to have their voice heard, Comhairle na nÓg is designed to enable young people to have a voice on the services, policies and issues that affect them in their local area. Today 8 TY students along with Ms McGrath attended the Waterford AGM in the Park Hotel. Many topics were discussed at this event students also enjoyed food and goodies, a dance workshop, guest speakers and many more fun activities.

This competition is a themed competition that will focus on the many benefits of our trees and forests. The competition provides a great opportunity for non-professional photographers and photo enthusiasts to get snapping while being in with a chance to win exciting prizes. Trees and forests provide wonderful settings to enjoy nature, particularly during the autumn, with spectacular changing colours. They provide multiple benefits for people, ranging from carbon storage and protection of water quality to increased income and employment opportunities, many in rural areas. Wood from our forests is multi-purpose with its uses ranging from spectacular building components to ornate furniture. Competition & Prizes The 'Celebrating Our Shared Vision for Trees, Woods and Forests' competition focuses on three consecutive forest themes running from October to December, 2022. At the end of each theme period, the winner for that theme will be chosen and is guaranteed a prize of €400 in vouchers with €100 in vouchers for each of two selected runners up. Each theme winner will also go forward to a Grand Final on December 16, when the overall competition winner will be in line for a further €600 in vouchers.
