GAISCE - Visit from Paul Darby

Gaisce is the most prestigious youth award in Ireland and is a challenge to young people from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins to dream big and realise their potential. We were delighted to welcome Mr Paul Darby to the Friary today. He gave a very informative presentation to the students about GAISCE. It is an amazing award to have on a CV and a great talking point at a job interview. We strongly advise and encourage students to complete the GAISCE Bronze award during TY. I look forward to receiving applications.

Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning Social for Hospice is one of Ireland’s biggest, longest established and most loved fundraisers in Ireland. Now in its 30th year, this annual fundraiser that takes place in cities, towns and villages all across Ireland has raised over €41.5million! That is an incredible and life changing amount supporting specialist palliative care all across Ireland. Today in the Friary TY students made a huge effort for this event by holding a raffle. Congratulations to Katie Walsh 4th year and Devin Curran 3rd year both students won a €50 Elverys Voucher. Congratulations to Ms Green she won a beautiful hamper of Bewleys Coffee products. We are truly grateful for all donations and we are very proud to say that €500 was raised today in our school. This money will be presented to John Moran who is a member of our schools Board of Management. He will deliver the €500 directly to Waterford Hospice. Every euro raised locally stays local.

A digital portfolio is like an online scrapbook that showcases your skills in action, your experience, and your expertise. Each week during this class TY students will add to their portfolio.
Higher Options Trip

98 students in leaving certificate travelled to the Irish Times Higher Options. Leading Irish, UK and European stands were available for students to seek advice and gain insight into a potential career of choice. There were multiple talks on careers for students at staggered times. Representatives from CAO, Universities, Further Education Institutions, Solas and educational bodies from all over the world were at hand to answer questions and to discuss career choices. The Higher Options is a starting point for students as they begin to research the next stage of their educational journey. After the Higher Options, Dundrum Shopping Centre was a welcome break for some retail therapy. Many thanks to Ms Moore Guidance Counsellor for organising the trip and to Ms Sheehan, Ms O Kennedy, Ms O Sullivan and Ms Murray for attending and ensuring the day ran smoothly.
