Last week, some TY students took part in a TU Dublin Photography Challenge. They were divided into 2 groups, one group working in a studio, the other in a darkroom, and then later both groups swapping over. The students in the darkroom were given negatives and using enlargers, photo paper and chemical developed test strips, before producing full-sized (8” X10”) prints. Those in the studio got a basic understanding of photographic equipment and exposure, artificial lighting, colour and how it can be used to your advantage when taking portraits. Each student got an opportunity to be in front of and behind the camera. Great fun and an interesting learning experience was had by all students involved.
