Lismore TY Trip

Today’s TY Trip brought students to the beautiful town of Lismore. Students enjoyed the Lady Louisa Walk a woodland walk along the banks of the River Blackwater out to Roundhill and back into the town. After a picnic lunch we headed to the The Towers Walk a loop set amid a famine era folly. Arthur Kiely Usher promised to build an ostentatious castle for his spoilt wife. In 1850 he created The Towers- imposing gothic style gate lodges and bridge. With so much money spent on this ornate entrance, there was no money left for the castle and a grand folly was born. The path winds through woodland habitat. Finally we visited Dromana Gate a highly unusual Hindu Gothic gate lodge on the road to Villerstown, built in the 19th Century to mark the marriage of a popular local landlord. A great day, great weather and great students.
