Notes

Dear Parent/Guardian,
I hope this finds you well on this beautiful evening.
I am reaching out for your assistance in relation to providing explanation notes on our App. It is working very well with a few minor anomalies. Some people are using the "Parent Note" to explain absences - where this happens the system will not recognise that you have explained the absence, lateness etc. and therefore your explanation will not be recorded.
Please use the relevant notes;
Parent note - to communicate with particular people across the school, other than for the areas of the other "notes"
Absent note - explaining absences only - please send in before 8.15am to have it recognised that day - otherwise you will receive a text message informing you that your student is absent.
Late note - please send this in before your student arrives to the school.
Permission to Leave note - please send this in before 8.15am to enable the Tutor to approve the permission for your student to leave early. On a rare occasion where circumstances may change during the day or in an emergency - please send in this note at least 15mins before your student must leave our school.
Where you would like to speak to a teacher other than those on the "Parent Note" list, please phone the office 045 868121 to have them call you back. Year Heads are not in a position to deliver messages in this regard to fellow teachers.
Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope you and your family are keeping well in these changing times. It was great to welcome back the Transition Years on Monday and I am looking forward to working with them this year.
As in previous years TY students are on Work Experience every Friday. We are aware that finding placements this year may be more difficult and so we are in the process of setting up some “Online courses” for the students to complete on the Fridays that they have not secured a placement. Further details are attached in a pdf.
If your student is fortunate to have obtained a work placement then letters for the employer which include the insurance indemnity are available on the school website: www.scoilmhuireclane.ie/blog/posts/73 - Simply download the letters and fill out for the employer and return to me Ms O’ Reilly (TY Year head and Work Experience Coordinator)
Regards,
Ms O’ Reilly

Physical Distancing
Created : 10 Sep 2020, 6:12 PM

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Please remind and instil in your student(s) the importance of physical distancing at this time. This is especially important when they are outside and appear to feel that physical distancing is not necessary. All students must continue to wear their face covering on the way out of school each day it is advised that they continue to wear it on the way home where physical distancing is not practised. There are separate arrangements on school transport.
It is physically impossible to individually remind each student of their responsibilities especially when leaving the school.
We are all in this together!
Textbooks

"Teachers will employ a range of approaches to reduce the need to bring textbooks to school for each subject everyday.
•Students will be able to access textbooks using their phones/devices during class-time - however, WiFi may become slow and access could become intermittent
•Students should download textbooks where possible.
"Students are permitted to bring their phones/devices to school - it is not necessary to purchase a device - the school cannot accept any responsibility for the security of these devices. •Students will be only be permitted to use them in class when directed by a teacher. •Our mobile phone policy applies outside of these classes. •Students are not permitted to use their phones/devices outside of class-time."
These are two extracts from the "Our Response to the Challenge of Covid 19" document.
While students do not have to bring their textbooks to school, they may like to bring some. They should be used at home for homework, learning etc. There is no facility to store books in the school.
Students must bring their copybooks and workbooks if required by their teacher. they will be instructed accordingly in their most recent lessons.
All school textbooks can be accessed in the form of an eBook using any device - phone, tablet laptop etc. Instructions are on the publishers websites and on the inside of the cover of the books. Most of the publishers have Apps for smartphones/devices. Please help your students(s) to set this up over the weekend.
All textbooks can be downloaded onto a tablet/laptop & desktop computers. The school is not in a position to supply devices to students.
Students will be provided with access to the school WiFi by their teachers as required. This operates on a voucher system and is in one hour slots. The most desirable solution is for students to download the books onto a tablet or a laptop if they have access to one and bring that to school fully charged each day.
Students can also take a photograph of the next few pages of their textbooks. We all have to be creative in these unusual times.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Covid 19 Precautions

Dear Parent/Guardian,
If your student has any common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), they should self-isolate and phone your GP straight away to get advice. We are seeking the support of all our school community to reduce the risk of introducing Covid 19 into our school. We are asking you to keep your student at home for at least two days where your child has any of the symptoms or until they receive the results of a test for Covid 19. where your child has any of the symptoms. A person that requires paracetamol or a similar over the counter medication must remain at home for at least two days. The symptoms can be similar to flu/ a cold, please see the document attached for a comparision. Please use the "Absence Note" and not the "Parent Note" facility on the App to inform the school and to explain the absence. We hope that none of your households are affected by this virus. Thank you in advance.
Common symptoms of coronavirus include:
a fever (high temperature - 38 degrees Celsius or above)
a cough - this can be any kind of cough, not just dry
shortness of breath or breathing difficulties
loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
It can take up to 14 days for symptoms to show. They can be similar to symptoms of cold and flu.
Getting an early diagnosis from your GP means you can get the help you need and take steps to avoid spreading the virus, if you have it.
