A very warm welcome back this week to all our TY Students after their extremely busy two weeks of work experience and mid-term break. The week got off to a great start with Subject Talks being delivered to TY students first thing Monday morning, followed by a remote subject options session for both TY students and parents on Monday evening. It is hoped that the information given to students will be useful in enabling them to make a well-informed decision about subject choices for 5th and 6th Year. This week also saw a number of students being selected to participate in the RCSI Mini Med programme. This programme is specifically designed to encourage post-primary students to consider careers in healthcare. All sections of the programme were carried out by leading professionals in their respective areas with a wide variety of topics – including general practice, heart surgery, pathology, paediatrics, forensic medicine, transplants, obstetrics and gynaecology, pharmacy and physiotherapy being covered during the programme. Well done to those students who went through the vigorous dual application process. RCSI application, Our Lady’s School application and a 750 word essay on why they would like to enter the healthcare profession. Today we welcomed retired Dublin Gaelic Football Champion Kevin McManamon to OLS. He visited our TY1’s and TY4’s, and delivered Aware’s Life Skills Programme. Life Skills for Schools is an educational programme available aimed at helping young people develop helpful ways of thinking and managing concerns. This weeks programme included: UNDERSTANDING YOUR FEELINGS This session introduces cognitive behavioural (CBT) and helps the group understand that what we think and do influences how we feel. ARE YOU STRONG ENOUGH TO KEEP YOUR TEMPER (1,2,3 Breath) This session helps recognise what winds us up, and how to control anger and improve happiness and relationships. This week was Our Lady’s School inaugural Cyber Week. Well done to all students who participated in this. As special congratulations to our Webwise Digital Champions Ella McCabe and Rachel Vaughan. A very big congratulations this week also goes to the following TY students: Elle Walsh Giguere Chosen as a Leinster Final winner in ActionTalks. Rachel Vaughan who after competing in the schools translation competition has been offered a half scholarship to Naomh Eoin. Ella McCabe and Olivia Casey who won their Junior A Hockey semi final and will progress to the final next Thursday, 10th March at 11am in Three Rock Rovers. Next Week is lining up to be another busy week for out TY's. We look forward to Development Day 4 on Tuesday. All details have been posted to the Students Google Classroom. Please note TY3’s will need the attached waiver signed and returned to Ms. Phelan by Monday. We look forward to the smell of coffee beans wafting through the corridors of OLS once more as our Barista’s partake in a full day's advanced training. Thursday sees the school closed due to JCT training but we look forward to seeing lots of green faces cheering on our Junior A team in the Leinster Schoolgirls League Final. Lastly, we look forward to welcoming Kevin McManamon back on Friday for session 2 of Aware’s Life Skills Programme . A gentle reminder that the final amount for Carlingford is now due as is your child's medical form. Should your child wish to avail of Carlingfords' bed packs this can be purchased for €5 through easy payments. It is optional but would mean that your child won't need to bring their own sleeping bags and pillow. These bed packs include a duvet, extra sheet & pillow. Also a gentle reminder to TY2 and TY3 students. Consent and payment of €10 is now due for the fighting words workshop. We are delighted to be reintroducing this off site workshop for the first time since 2020. Consent can be granted through the school app and payment made through easy payments.

Thursday’s theme for Cyber Week was 'Entertainment', and we certainly saw that today in OLS. We had a number of different activities. Mr Tilley gave us some valuable insights during his Tech Talk about how technology can influence performance in sport. As well as that, Nikishi and Lily gave demonstrations of their expertise on iPad apps. It was fantastic to see students leading the way! Students got to experience the virtual world with our VR Expo in the GPA, they saw Ancient Rome and the Galapagos islands through the virtual lens! Finally, to reward our students who have been positively contributing to the school, gaming vans were organised and the girls had a great time playing on a variety of different games.
