Our Agricultural Science students visited Padraic McMahon’s farm in North Co. Dublin to put into practice what they have been studying this year. They got involved in all activities surrounding lambing, including moving sheep, catching lambs, tagging ears, docking tails, injections, feeding lambs and even assisted with a lamb being born! Of course there was plenty of lamb cuddles too! It was lovely to have two past pupils, that are on their work placement on the farm, guide the students and discuss their degrees in Animal Science that they are currently studying in UCD.

Walk for Water - Celebrating the value of fresh water in our lives

On Friday 14th of March the Green School Commitee and all 5th years participated in Walk For Water.
The students walked carrying their bags with books to represent carrying water. In our world 1 in 10 people do not have access to clean water and in developing countries normally the girls in families need to walk on average 6km daily carrying 20kg of water. In Ireland a household uses 133liters a day. That would be 133kg of water.
The message from the Green Schools committee is that they "hope everyone took time to think about how vital water is, how much we use it, and why we shouldn't waste water! Even though we are walking along the sea and seeing so much water - none of it is drinkable. Only 1.2% of water in the world is!"
Walk for Water is part of the HFC Greens Schools campaign for getting the water flag and making HFC more sustainable
