Irish Guide Dog Fundraiser

The annual Irish Guide Dog fundraising event takes place on Friday 29th November from 4.00pm-6.00pm and Saturday 30th November from 8.45am-12.30pm. There’ll be lots of hockey to watch and yummy treats to enjoy with a hot tea or coffee. There’ll be lots of Irish Guide Dog merchandise and some Christmas crafts available to buy too. All support welcome.

Junior: Four students from second year competed in the second round of the UCD Junior Schools debating competition last week. All participants spoke very well, and two of the girls won their room. The students involved are: Keisha Abdulhamman, Anshika Gupta, Prachi Agrawal and Ishna Tripathi. Senior: Brooke Dwyer and Ailbhe Quinlan competed in the Senior Leinster Schools competition in UCD last week and also won their room. Students form junior and senior levels continue to debate weekly in Mace debates in both UCD and Trinity, and neighbouring schools.

Well done to everyone who took part in Geography Awareness Week this week. Huge congratulations to the winners of ‘The Great Geography Bake Off’ which took place on Friday. A great effort was made by all contestants and guest judge Ms. Cryan was very impressed with the standard. The winners are as follows: Junior Category Joint 3rd Place - Ira Guidoriagao, Orla Byrne, Saoirse Cannon (3rd Year) Emily Mullock (1st Year) 2nd Place - Emily Antonio, Sophia Olivieri, Alanna Fitzsimons (2nd Year) 1st Place - Aya Parker (2nd Year) Senior Overall Winner Flavia Comiskey, Lauren Gallagher (6th Year)
Computer Science Workshop

5th and 6th year Computer Science students were very lucky to have Keith Quille @kquille from TU Dublin to run a workshop with them today. They covered HTML, JavaScript and databases, and learned so much for one morning.

Our TY’s have had a busy 2 weeks. They completed the rotation of visits to the National Museum, National Gallery and National Library. A number of students volunteered at the Sion Hill Past Pupils Union Annual Dinner. A group scripted and recorded a show for Blackrock College Radio. This will be broadcast on Friday 22nd November at 3pm – tune in to 94.3fm to listen. Five students are taking part in UCD’s computer science programme CS Sparks - this will run in UCD over 4 weeks and aims to introduce and promote computer programming to female students. Those not involved in the musical took part in a rugby blitz with St Michael’s College. Hanna Keogh and Brooke Dwyer took part in the RTE Youth Assembly on Climate in Dail Eireann. We also had an assembly to recognise the academic achievement of the girls in their Junior Cert. Three students received the award having got the top marks - they were Brooke Dwyer, Isabella Fagan and Ailbhe Quinlan.

Science Week

One of the events during Science Week included a challenge for Maths Club members. The maths club students were given an egg, a sheet of newspaper, string and a limited amount of sticky tape to get the egg safely out the window and land it one piece. The winners were A Pilkington and A Vincent.
