KERRY MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING FEST LAUNCH FREE ONLINE MINDFULNESS AND CHAIR YOGA SESSIONS
Part of the ‘Keep Well Kerry’ campaign
Building on the success of and feedback from the week-long Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest held in October, the interagency committee have organised a series of free online mindfulness and chair yoga sessions to take place for 15 minutes each weekday from 30th November to 18th December.
These morning mindfulness sessions from 11am – 11.15am and afternoon chair yoga sessions from 2pm – 2.15pm will be led by Susan Barrett and Maeve Ferris respectively. Anyone can watch these sessions live on the Healthy Kerry website at www.healthykerry.ie or Facebook page @healthycountykerry.
These online series are being made possible due to the collaboration between Kerry County Council, the HSE, NEWKD, SKDP, Kerry Mental Health Association, Jigsaw Kerry, IT Tralee and Kerry Volunteer Centre.
Launching the online sessions, the chairperson of Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest, Donagh Hennebry, said:
“All adults in Kerry and workplaces to avail of these free 15-minute mindfulness and yoga sessions to help people to switch off, find ways to relax and support their general wellbeing during these difficult times. This is a perfect opportunity for employers to support wellbeing in their workplace.”
The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Patrick Connor-Scarteen, added:
“The sessions are a key component of the local initiatives that are being developed and rolled out across the county under the national ‘Keep Well’ campaign and I would encourage everyone to take part. Taking time out to relax and unwind is such an important thing to do at the present challenging time.”
The Keep Well campaign in Kerry complements the national government campaign and focuses on five ways to support community wellbeing, which are:
Keeping active and being outdoors - even during the winter, it is important to help physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Staying connected - staying connected with people and addressing isolation as person-to-person connection is important to our wellbeing.
Switching off and being creative - switching off and being creative or learning something new, getting back to nature and finding ways to relax can help our general wellbeing.
Eating well - by nourishing your body and mind we can positively impact our physical and mental wellbeing.
Managing your mood – equipping people with information on where to go if they need support

Our TYs planted 17 trees today as part of their Community Involvement Program in conjunction with Killorglin Tidy Towns. Believe it or not Ireland has the lowest forest cover in Europe, a paltry 11% in comparison to a European average of well over 30%. An increase in the number of trees is very important to the future of the planet and our thanks to James Daly for educating our students, providing trees and imparting his knowledge on where and how to plant native species such as Oak, Silver Birch, Scot's Pine and Mountain Ash. If there is an area around Killorglin or an estate, for example, where you would like some trees to be planted please contact the school and we will do our best to make it happen.

Re: Confirmed case of COVID-19 at Intermediate School Killorglin

A confirmed case of COVID-19 in your child’s school has been notified to the Department of Public
Health HSE-South.
A public health risk assessment has been undertaken. The parents of any children deemed to be
close contacts of the confirmed case have been contacted and advised accordingly.
If your child has not been identified as a close contact at this time, your child does not need a test
for Covid-19, they can continue to attend school, and no further actions are required at this time.
If your child develops any symptoms suggestive of Covid-19 infection (such as a cough, a fever, loss
or change in sense of taste or smell), please do not send your child to school. Contact your GP and
begin restricting your child’s movements. Restricted movement means avoiding contact with other
people and social situations as much as possible. It means that your child stays at home and:
o Does not go to school
o Does not use public transport
o Does not have visitors in your home
o Does not go to the shops or pharmacy, unless absolutely necessary
o Keeps away from older people, anyone with an underlying medical condition and pregnant
women
The Department of Public Health HSE-South is monitoring the school situation closely.
Further information on COVID-19 is available at: www.hpsc.ie and www.gov.ie
Yours sincerely,
