Dear Incoming Students,
We are really looking forward to your arrival as First Year Students in the ISK . We had planned for two events for each of you to come into the school before June but that is not going to happen this year. Instead, we would like to see what you have been getting up to in ”lockdown”. You need to know that this is not homework or compulsory – it is simply to give us an idea of what exceptional people will be joining us in this exceptional year. So please email in images of your Art-work, Home Baking, clips of you playing Music / Singing/Dancing or maybe Exercising, Playing Sport or anything worthwhile to1styear2020@isk.ie and we will put it up on www.isk.ie and our Facebook page. Please keep all emails with attachments to below 20 megabaytes.
Thank you
Mr O’Dwyer

A word of encouragement, gratitude and farewell to all Leaving Certs graduating throughout the diocese this summer 2020.
Thank you for your contribution to your school over the years: in friendship, in care for each other, in academics, in sport, in music, and in other ways too numerable to mention.
I am mindful of the uncertainty and pressure you each felt over the past two months. It has been very difficult, difficult to study on your own day in day out, difficult as a class not to have days to bid farewell to the school and to each other.
Congratulations on completing the Leaving Cert year. Trust that all will be well with your results, try not to spend the summer worrying and thinking negative thoughts: the results will come out in due time; for the vast, vast majority of you, by late October the next section of your path in life will have opened up ahead of you, - college, apprenticeship, whatever other personal option you choose.
2019-20 has been a year of major events outside the school gate: the Brexit saga continued; our country is now 100 days without a new government; all that Covid-19 has brought with it, those long weeks of confining ourselves to our own homes.
Three lessons I draw from Covid-19:
• Each day of your life, you have all you need to be happy and content. Find happiness in the present as it is.
• Together, united with our families and friends, united as a country, we can cope with whatever life throws at us.
• We are blessed that there are so many wonderful, talented, generous, caring people of all ages everywhere, - locally, nationally, globally.
When asked to quote something from Jesus, the following often comes to mind. It reminds me to always hope and trust in God:
Do not worry about your life and what you are to eat, or your body and how you are to clothe it. Surely life means more than food, and the body more than clothing! Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are? Your heavenly Father knows your needs. (Mt 5:25)
As you look to the future, I also think of the following piece, written in the 18th century. It urges each of us to put ‘love of others’ at the centre of how we live:
But once I pass this way, and then – no more.
So while I may, with all my might
I will bring sweet comfort and delight
to all I meet upon the Pilgrim Way.
For no one travels twice the Great Highway
that climbs through darkness up to light, through night to day.
I shall pass through this world but once.
Therefore, any good that I can do,
any kind act that I can perform for any fellow-creature,
let me do it now.
Let me not delay, or omit it, for I shall not pass this way again.
Congratulations and every blessing on all Leaving Cert 2020 students, their families and their teachers.

In 2020, the Junior Cycle learning achievement of students will be recognised through a specific form of certification designed to meet the current, exceptional circumstances presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. For each student, certification will involve two elements:
• A State Certificate of completion of Junior Cycle from the Department of Education and Skills. Students should receive a State Certification that they have completed three years of Junior Cycle education in a number of subjects/priority learning units. This certification will be provided by the Department of Education and Skills.
• A School Report setting out the learning achievements of students in Junior Cycle
With regards to the school report. Parents/Guardians will be able to log in to VsWare after the 29th May and will be able to look at an average grade of their child in Third Year.80% will be based on exams completed before 12th March & 20% will be based on assessments after that date. Results of CBAs in relevant subjects will also be visible
Activity Challenge

At this stage some people are coming to a point where they feel there is no end to the isolation and social distancing protocol. It is very hard to maintain what we are asked to do, but by engaging in some form of activity that releases stress and frustration may give people some sense of freedom, This may help people to stay focused on the job at hand. So Chris Flannery has put together this activity challenge for the remainder of the term

Dear Parents/Guardians,
All ISK students have Microsoft 365 accounts. Within these accounts, students have access to Emails, Microsoft Teams & Microsoft One Note. Students have been set required work or have been instructed to access these platforms. All students have school email addresses passwords. These emails and passwords allow students to log in to these platforms using the same details. In addition to this many students have the relevant apps for these platforms already installed on their phones. Students have been instructed to engage with the work that has been set for them.
Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.
