Stand Up Awareness Week 2020

This week, Naas CBS supported BeLonG To's Stand Up Awareness Week. The theme for this year's campaign was 'Come In so no one has to Come Out.' Throughout this week, a display board and digital display were set up in the assembly. Students could view LGBTI+ terminology, various flags belonging to different groups; famous LGBT+ faces; supports for students and a map of Europe highlighting countries that respect full equality and those that do not. Lessons were taught during this week with a particular focus on the correct terminology to use and the various supports available to students, in school, locally and nationally. The week came to a close with the Rainbow Rag Day, which was a great success. Ms Kearns, Ms C.Phibbs, Ms Prendiville, Ms Ward and the Amnesty Team would like to sincerely thank all staff, students and parents who helped make this year's Stand Up Awareness Week a success.

As part of our Transition Year work experience module we had several people link in through Zoom over the past week to talk about their careers. A huge thank you is owed to them for giving their time to talk to the TY students who linked in remotely from home and the 6th years who attended the talks in school. The information and insights given were invaluable. We have several more people lined up to give talks, and given the success of this week we will look to organise more over the course of the year. The calling is still there for anyone who would like to get involved, just make contact with the school or to myself, sc@naascbs.ie Thank you again to: Peter O'Connell - Vet Richard Cronin - Google Tommy Callaghan - Leinster Leader Sports Editor Adrian Kelly - Electrical Engineer Dave O'Connell - Personal Trainer at True Fitness Naas Vincent O'Byrne - Architecture Niall O'Brien - Medicine Regards, S.Coy TY Year Head

Just before the midterm break a number of our pupils wrote letters to the residents of Craddock House Nursing Home. Our students wanted to ask how everyone was keeping in Craddock House and keep up contact during this pandemic. We were delighted to receive a response and wanted to take the opportunity to share this letter with all our students (please see attached PDF) The end of the letter shares some lovely advice for us all. We look forward to linking in with our friends in Craddock House Nursing Home again before Christmas via a digital video with a Christmas message and music from our students here in Naas CBS. Well done to everyone involved in this thoughtful initiative.
