Stand Up Awareness Week 2020

Stand Up Awareness Week is Ireland’s largest anti-LGBTI+ bullying (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, plus) campaign in second-level schools. BeLonG To’s 12th Stand Up Awareness campaign takes place next week from November 16th-20th.
Here in Naas CBS, student wellbeing is of paramount importance to us. In order to promote good wellbeing and a sense of inclusion within our school, we will be supporting Stand Up week 2020.
Throughout the week a board will be displayed in the assembly highlighting LGBTI+ terminology and the various flags used within the LGBTI+ community. Supports for students both in school, locally and nationally will also be displayed. In addition to this, lessons will be taught throughout the week in SPHE/Wellbeing classes to raise awareness of LGBTI+ matters.
On Friday, 20th November, we are asking staff and students to get involved in the Rainbow Ragday to show support to the LGBTI+ community. We are asking each year group to wear a specific colour jumper, t-shirt or jersey:
1st Years - red
2nd Years - orange
3rd Years - yellow
4th Years - green
5th Years - blue
6th Years - purple
This Stand Up Awareness Week we are asking students to #ComeIn so no one has to come out.
As coming out is not all ‘rainbows’, some students and parents may need additional support. Please see the list of PDF supports attached.
