Transition Year Work Experience 2020/21

Transition Year
Dear parents & guardians,
Covid-19 has impacted many aspects of our Transition Year programme and we have had to rethink our approach to many areas, including our work experience modules.
Work experience is always one of the most successful elements of our TY programme and one of the main driving factors for students choosing to partake in the year.
Many of our students have already managed to achieve experiential & virtual placements and we are very grateful for these and all involved in accommodating them.
Where students are unsuccessful in procuring a placement we are looking to provide alternative opportunities for them.
As such we are looking for people in different industries, professions, occupations, trades or all walks of life, who might be interested in giving some of their time to link in with the school and some of our TY students to help provide them with an insight into different careers paths and opportunities available to them.
This can be done in many formats and we aim to be as flexible as possible to accommodate anyone who might like to get involved. Some options we are open to include actual work placements/experiences, in-school talks/workshops or virtual options such as zoom calls, emails, pre-recorded videos etc.
It would be brilliant to link in with past pupils and especially those who once participated in Transition Year within the CBS.
The dates for our first block of work experience run for two weeks from the 9th - 20th November.
The second block runs next February from the 8th - 12th and again from the 22nd - 26th
(The mid term break falls in between these two weeks)
The work experience programme is fully covered under the schools insurance scheme.
This year we are happy to accommodate any work experience students can obtain, even if it falls outside of our timetabled blocks.
If you, or anyone you know of, who might be interested in working with the school to help provide our TY students with opportunities or insights into your profession could you please make contact with me by registering your interest through the following link and I can provide further details.

Class Materials/Schoolbags

Dear Parents, Guardians & Students,
Many thanks for your time and patience as we were working on the issue of classroom materials and weighted schoolbags. We appreciate how difficult it is for students to manage at the moment without lockers and to move from class to class with weighted schoolbags. We are very grateful to our students for their co-operation and support.
It has been a significant task compiling a list of essential materials for class, from each subject department, for every year group. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our teachers that have taken on the task of storing books in classrooms, using e-books where possible, uploading materials to google classroom and ensuring that the classroom itself is a safe environment for everyone to learn.
Please see attached a PDF which outlines materials required for each subject for each year group. Where possible staff are storing materials in class and using e-books. We ask that you please work with your son to ensure he is only packing necessary materials and if his schoolbag is still too heavy please default to leaving some materials at home.
We will continue to monitor this issue and appreciate your support going forward.
Many thanks,
The Management Team
