This beautiful, colourful and thoughtful “Heart Art” collage collaboration is created by Scoil Chriost Rí Art students and their Art teachers Miss Kelly and Ms. Roche. This “Heart Art” Collage was created as part of a National Art Project collaboration where Heart’s where creatively made by designing, drawing, painting, sculpting, crocheting, knitting, baking, photographing, assembling, coiling, quilling, constructing etc. and have been created by students and teachers from all over Ireland! All the Hearts created by schools around the country are currently being brought together by Art teacher Deborah McCann who initiated this wonderful project idea. She is currently putting all the participating school's collages into one "HUGE Collage of Hearts" to say thank you to all front-line workers during this pandemic and to share love and support to all those affected during this difficult time. The National Heart Art Collage currently has over 1000 hearts at present and is still growing! When it is completed it will be shared for all to see! It has been a memorable experience for students and teachers creating hearts, collecting them and bringing them together to show empathy, kindness and support from a distance! It will be a piece of Heart Art ... that will go down in Art History!

The annual SCR teacher vs students match won't be on the basketball court this year, instead it's taking to the streets and roads within our 5km, as we run/walk to get the fastest times. St. James' Hospital are also running a 5km challenge at movement in aid of their mental health services. Our 6th year class of 2020, as a way of marking the end their time in Scoil Chríost Rí, have asked that we incorporate the two challenges and donate, if we can donate, to this cause when we have completed our 5km. To enter the challenge you must record your time, take a picture and upload it on instagram using the #scrteachervsstudentrun, and don't forget to donate. All entries must be in before May 22nd. Can the teachers hold onto the title of champions?? Lets get behind our class of 2020 and find out!!

Our virtual Fun Day on May 1st was a great success, judging by the volume of entries for the various challenges that came flying into the SCR wellness email. Thank you to all who took part and had a laugh in doing so. Even though we may not have all been together on the sports field, basketball courts, in the sports hall or the GPA, the spirit of Scoil Chriost Ri and the essence of our Fun Day was evident, in a virtual but very real way in your homes. Over the past week the Fun Day committee have been busy trawling through the entries, deliberating and analysing, but they had decided upon the winners of each of the challenges. It was not an easy task, as the standard was so high, and in some cases as it was too close to call, the result was pulled from a hat. Congratulations to you all, and the Fun Day committee will be in contact with regard to your €20 'One4all' Voucher prize soon. So without further ado .........drum roll..... 1st place in the SCR Fun Day 2020: • Photography Challenge: Orlaith Whelan (6D) - 'The Little Yellow Ducklings’ • Physical Challenge: Ashlynn McDonald (1D) - 13 Toilet Rolls (result pulled from a hat) youtu.be/wsdfyPH_Wsc • Music Challenge: Erin O' Neill (4B) - singing Lewis Capaldi's ' Hold Me While You Wait' youtu.be/xp-rZMhYado • Baking Challenge: Sintija Vaiciulionyte (5D) - Drip Cake • Art & Craft Challenge: Maya Anton (6C) - 'Needle Felted Flamingo' • Trick Shots Challenge: Chloe Keenan (3D) - youtu.be/mG-ISB3nJGE • Healthy Lunch Challenge: Lauren Traynor (3E) • Yoga Challenge: The Traynor Family , Caitlin (5A), Lauren (3E), Shauna (1C) • Hair & Beauty Challenge: Eva May Fingleton (1C) - nails made from paper To see some of the amazing entries that were received, check out our fun day page on the website: www.scoilchriostriportlaoise.ie/fun-day-2020

This week as part of their well-being classes our 1st, 2nd and 3rd years have been looking at music and how it can help to provide meaning and value to life. “I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.” ― Billy Joel The girls looked at the benefits that music has in the search for meaning and value in life; -When listening to music people can feel less lonely -They can feel a connection and a sense of belonging that whatever they are going through others are feeling the same way -Music can be a way of carving out an identity and making friendships with like-minded people -Music can inspire people -Music can have an impact on people’s moods The choice of tasks the students were asked to complete this week included: -Picking their favourite up-lifting lyric from a song of their choice -Creating an up-lifting playlist of five songs Plenty of positive, uplifting songs to sing-a-long to this weekend.
