Hi everyone Saibh, Alannah and Lucy here, as part of the TY journalism class we will be contributing to the weekly TY update and we’re excited to tell you what we have been up to! This week the TY’s were super busy! The week kicked off with the TY active flag students dodging in and out of different PE classes to run the whole school dodgeball competition. The winning teams will go head to head with the teachers next week, a competition we are all excited to see! Maths week this week had the TY’s outside hunting for treasure (or in this case Maths sums!). Ms. Bateman’s TY Maths class designed posters with Maths problems on them for outside each classroom door allowing everyone to participate in Maths week even on their way to class. The TY Enterprise fair that took place on Wednesday was a huge success. From sweets to lip glosses to guessing the weight of the pumpkin, this fair was well received by the delighted first and fourth year students who were brought to buy the products on offer. Well done and congratulations to all involved on a superb job. On Friday all students across TY attended a talk by the IADT (Institute of Art Design and Technology). This helped them to get an insight into careers such as Psychology, Business, Media Studies and Photography as well as many others. Further information about IADT and its courses on offer can be found via this link iadt.ie/courses/?type=undergraduate In regards to signing up for new and exciting things this week, the TY’s were given the opportunity to enter a short piece of fictional writing to the widely recognised annual Fighting Words competition. This is open to any student who has a love for writing and would like the opportunity to have their work published in the Irish Times Magazine. The deadline is the 22nd of December so anyone who is interested should start brainstorming and we hope to have a winning OLS student. TY’s had the opportunity to sign up to Free coding workshops from DojoMór 2022, which will be running online, from 10am to 1pm, Saturday 22nd October 2022, offering a range of activities to suit all ages and interests. Lastly, all students had an opportunity to express their interest in Zipit as an Extra Activity. Next week the TYs will be busy with Reading Week and completing their practice Spanish and French aurals. Best of luck to all! As well as this, next Tuesday, TY students who are interested in studying medicine have been given the opportunity to attend a talk regarding the HPAT. We would strongly encourage anyone who is thinking about medicine as a future career to attend. Just a gentle reminder that payment for Run In The Dark and the Introductory Barista course is now due for those who have signed up in order to ensure that you keep your place.
