On behalf of the Parents' Council we would like to thank all the students and parents who baked their way onto Santa's nice list by donating a cake for the Christmas market stall today. A huge thank you to all the members of the Parents' Council for both the organisation and successful running of the bake sale today in Trinity College. It was fantastic to see past students who attend Trinity College, roll up their sleeves and help out at the stall too. An all round OLS community effort!!

We Whisk you a Merry Christmas - Parents' Council Appeal
Created : 29 Nov 2023, 2:32 PM

A reminder of the Parents' Council Appeal below:

The Parents' Council have secured a stall at the much coveted St. Michaelmas Christmas Market in Trinity College this Friday, 1st December. This is a wonderful opportunity for the Parents' Council to raise some funds that, as always, are reinvested into making the school environment ever better for the students. However, the Council need your help! The PC are looking to sell quality baked and festive goods at the stall but will need the school community to rally behind this cause.

On behalf of the Council we are asking everyone to roll up their sleeves, don their aprons and get baking. Huge footfall is expected at the stall so we will need a great volume of goods to sell. So, let's come together and bake OLS an even better place for all our students! If you could donate quality baked goods for this event please drop off to the school by 4 p.m. sharp this coming Thursday, November 30th.

The Parents' Council would also welcome any volunteers to help on the stall this Friday in Trinity College. If willing to lend a hand, please email parentscouncil@olschool.ie

Please see the flyer attached for details.

The Knitathon has started again!! This is a unique OLS tradition where staff and students come together and knit Christmas gifts for the homeless. This year we are making squares to make into lovely colourful blankets.

A huge congratulations to Nikishi Polgolla C5 who won the excellence award and the special category ISTA award at the recent SciFest National finals in Marino College. The entire OLS community are extremely proud of you!

Language Week is well and truly up and running this week with lot of events taking place around the school! Well done to our 5th Year Spanish Debating Team who have been working tremendously hard over the past few weeks. They recently competed in the ATS Spanish Debating Blitz in St Benildus College. The students had no easy feat, debating in opposition to the motion: "We should put limits on Artificial Intelligence." The student did brilliantly but lost out narrowly. Another well done to our team who were involved in a friendly debate against Belvedere College on the motion: "Girls face more social pressure than boys." All of our debating teams put a huge amount of effort into both competitions.

Some of our TY students had the opportunity to participate in a Bulgarian workshop hosted by 'Think Languages.' The students learnt some basic words and phrases in Bulgarian and learnt about the culture of the country. They also had a chance to make their very own Martenitsas, a handmade Bulgarian Bracelet which is traditionally gifted in the Spring time and symbolises good health and prosperity.
