Keeping busy...easier said than done?!

Keeping busy can be harder when so many of our usual hobbies have been interrupted by the social distancing rules, which are hard, but so, so important. It's important to keep busy because it keeps our positivity levels up. Our Sports Captain, Ciara, challenged us to rethink boredom and to see it as a good sauce to make things (lots of time at home!) more appetising... The challenge is what to do! Here are a few ideas to get you thinking: All-rounders: loads of ideas here for many hobbies: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1LDR2Du9KZ0Eq5-OCDmyecQDAcgVj_q-1?usp=sharing Readers: www.librariesireland.ie (Join the library for free access to ebooks, audiobooks, newspapers, magazines) Artists: thekildaregallery.ie/the-kildare-gallery-childrens-art-competition/ Rugby fans: www.leinsterrugby.ie/leinster-rugby-season-ticket-scarf-competition/ Those of you needing some supports to get your head around things: jigsawonline.ie/coronavirus-and-youth-mental-health/ Make a plan for tomorrow!

Sports Captain Ciara Campbell's Easter Message!

Hi everyone, I hope you are doing well and managing to keep active  through these exceptional circumstances. I know that Netflix, Disney+ and sleep marathons are very tempting, but it is extraordinary the difference just a little bit of exercise can make to your mood! I understand that going for a 10k run may not seem so enticing to a lot of you, nor is it possible with the new restrictions (use that as an excuse!), but exercise does not have to be a gruelling challenge, it can be as simple as playing swingball in the garden, chasing with brothers and sisters, half an hour of yoga (from personal experience, I can confirm that this provides entertainment to the rest of the family too!) or mastering a new gymnastics skill. As much as social media is encouraging us to see the negative side of this, it really gives us a chance to slow down, appreciate what we have and not take ourselves too seriously. The saying “hunger is the best sauce” is thrown around a lot, but in recent times I have come to believe that the best sauce is, in fact, boredom! I have to say that I fall victim to the temptations of chocolate on a daily basis, and that’s ok, so don’t beat yourself up about it. A little bit of sugar is good for the mind, just remember to balance it out with a little bit of exercise! Hope I get to see you all again soon, Ciara :) Please don't forget to fill out the survey for the TY Active School Flag class: bit.ly/student_OL For every 2 students who fill it out, U.L. will donate a euro to the school for sports equipment. Thank you!
Happy Easter!
