Dear TY Parents
Please see below an opportunity for Transition Year (TY) students to participate in a week-long research internship as Junior Research Assistants at the ADAPT SFI Centre, Dublin City University (DCU). The internship positions are open until December 2024, and the students can choose their preferred weeks to participate as Junior Research Assistants.
My name is Kanishk Verma, a doctoral student at DCU, under the joint supervision of Dr Brian Davis at DCU, Dr Tijana Milosevic at University College Dublin (UCD), and Dr Rebecca Umbach at Google, USA.
Our project DTCCT is aligned with the United Nations (UN) Rights of the Child and a recent report from the EU Commission advocating for the inclusion of children and young people in the design of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems.
During the internship, students will have the chance to gain both foundational knowledge in computer programming and also actively engage in the design and development of AI systems for the moderation of social media content. This hands-on experience will provide them with important insights into the ethical considerations, technical complexities, and real-world applications of AI in our digital age. More information on the internship opportunity can be found here.
By participating in this internship, students will:
Learn basics of computer programming and AI technology,
Gain practical experience in designing AI systems for social media content.
Design and curate components of AI systems for online bullying detection.
Details of the internship:
Duration: One week
Location: ADAPT Centre, School of Computing, Dublin City University Glasnevin Campus (Work from home options are also available)
Dates: Very flexible, we offer TY internships for the whole year of 2024.
Eligibility: An interest in learning.

Assessment reports are now open on VSware for all students. We would like to extend our congratulations to all students for completing the summer assessments 2024. It is imperative that students build on the feedback they received from their teachers on "Feedback Thursday" by reading and reflecting on the formative comments within these reports. Students should now focus on making incremental steps to improve based on this feedback. We wish all students a restful and enjoyable summer break.
Happy summer to all students, staff, and members of the OLS community!
