Well done to all TY students on completing another action packed week! This week TY’s enjoyed their final rotation of the current Development Day schedule. At this point in the year each class has participated in A Pilgrim's Path, First Aid Training, Transmission and a Day in Dublin City exploring either the Phoenix Park or The Little Museum, Dublin Castle and EPIC. TY1’s took to the airways as they experienced the amazing mobile recording studio brought right to the OLS doorstep. They benefited from professional industry training, honed their presentation skills and enjoyed recording their own radio segments in the high spec studio. TY2’s had a first class day as they completed their certified first aid course. TY3’s explored many of the historic beautiful churches that Dublin city has to offer, while also engaging in a voyage of stillness, inward reflection and prayer. TY4’s were brought back in time and experienced a multitude of attractions our city has to offer ranging from The Little Museum's Treasure Hunt in St. Stephen’s Green to the State Apartments at Dublin Castle. The day wasn't completed without a further Historical journey through EPIC, the Irish Emigration Museum. Wednesday saw OLS welcome back Dublin Barista School. A number of students completed their Certified Advanced Barista Training Course. Not only did they learn how to make espressos and froth perfect milk, they also set up OLS’s first coffee shop where they pleasantly and professionally served both students and staff. Well done to all involved. Thursday saw the school closed for teacher JCT training but that didn't stop the droves of students making their way to Three Rock Rovers to support the Junior A’s in the Leinster School Girls Junior 1A Final. After a nail biting match, 1v1’s and sudden death 1v1’s our team were crowned champions! Many thanks to all the wonderful supporters and a huge congratulations to our TY representatives Ella McCabe (Vice Captain) and Olivia Casey. Today, Friday we welcomed back retired Dublin Gaelic Football Champion Kevin McManamon to OLS. This weeks programme included: LOOKING AT THINGS DIFFERENTLY This session teaches the group to recognise and control unhelpful thinking patterns, and encourages them to challenge negative thoughts and replace them with more helpful ones. BUILDING INNER CONFIDENCE Things other people say to us creep into our heads and we can begin to believe them. This session helps the group rebuild self-confidence and learn to like themselves again. While TY4 participated in the Aware Programme, TY1, 2 and 3 all benefited from a Nutrition talk given by The Bodyful. This was a fantastic start to Wellbeing Week which included activities ranging from open mic to LGBTQIA+ Club and Rowing to bake sales. A huge well done and thank you to all those involved, especially Ciara McClean and Elle Giguere Walsh who launched the LGBTQIA+ Club. TY’s 2, 3 and 4 all enjoyed a talk given by This week students had the opportunity to sign up to the following: TY Pizza Challenge Student Council Movie Afternoon TY Maths - Developing Leaving Certificate Mathematical Thinking European Youth Parliament Dublin Conference 2022 Next week, even though it is a short week, promises to be just as busy! Monday see’s the TY Enterprise class helping clean the Dodder. If your child is in Enterprise please make sure you have given consent to this activity on the App. Also please remind them that they need to wear their full tracksuit, shoes that can get muddy and to bring gardening/marigold gloves. The TY’s are off to participate in The Fighting words workshop. A gentle reminder that consent and payment of €10 is now due for this workshop which takes place next Tuesday the 15th March. We are delighted to be reintroducing this off site workshop for the first time since 2020. Consent can be granted through the school app and payment made through easy payments. We also look forward to our TY Reps Raising the Flag next Wednesday during Flag Day. A gentle reminder that the final amount for Carlingford is now overdue as is your child's medical form. Should your child wish to avail of the bed packs this can be purchased on through easy payments. It is optional but would mean that your child won't need to bring their own sleeping bags and pillow. Carlingford’s bed packs cost an additional €5, and include a duvet, extra sheet & pillow. Lastly, a reminder to all TY’s in relation to Leaving Certificate subject options. The deadline to input your child’s preferences on VSware is next Tuesday the 15th March.
