Walk for Water

Friday 13th May we held our mini “walk for water. The walk celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people around the world living without access to safe water. In Ireland most of us have access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. Everyone in the world should have this access. The ‘walk for water’ raises awareness about women and children around the world who walk an average of 6km a day to access water and have to carry it on their way back. Our mini ‘walk for water' symbolises this journey. On the mini ‘walk for water’ the 1st years, their prefects and teachers walked 3km and the student council and TY student’s stewarded the event. Along the way the students collected water in a bucket from the spout/spring near the river in Kilcullen. The students were exemplary and great ambassadors for our school. Thank you to everyone who supported us. As well as the walk we are fundraising to build a well for a community in a developing country. Access to a well would mean that the community would have access to safe water and the women and children would not have to walk to fetch it. As a result of this children (particularly girls) would have the opportunity to attend school instead. We are very close to our target of €1300. We just need €100 more. We would appreciate any donations. Thank you.

First Years make history yet again. I'd like to announce that the First Year first ever swim team. Well done and best wishes to Freya, Turlough and Sean who have qualified for the Leinster Long Course Championships which will take place in the National Aquatic Centre in the next two weeks. Their dedication and commitment to early morning training and really intensive training. The total investment of time to this activity is hugely impressive. They compete with the best wishes of the entire year and the whole CPC School community. This is the First CPC Swim Team in the 136 history of the school and as the First Year Head to have a swim team I am so proud of their achievement so far. I am hoping they will bring First Year to a close with a Leinster trophy I need a swim trophy to add to the rugby trophy. Do you just love the diversity in this group.

CPC's u15 girls soccer team lost their Leinster Semi-Final today on a scoreline of 4-3 against Coláiste Bhríde of Enniscorthy. The girls have been magnificent all year but the bounce of the ball just didn't go our way today. They've had great fun and made new life long friends over the course of the year. Well done in making it so far into the competition. A special thank you to our 2 TY coaches Jenna and Abbie who have been superb in their role all year and to our sponsors H&H motors for giving the team an identity with a new set of O'Neills jerseys.

6th year's travelled to Kilkenny today on their school tour. They began their day with a leisurely stroll through Kilkenny City. Students started from the main gate of Kilkenny Castle and followed "The Medieval Mile" map which took them on walk through the medieval corridors and picturesque streets showing them the ancient history of this beautiful city.  After a quick bite, the students were back on the bus and off the Kilkenny Activity Centre where they took part in bubble soccer and paintballing warfare. A great day was had by all, especially those who got to send the teachers flying into the air in bubble soccer. Thanks to Ms. Gillespie for organising the trip.
