Walk for Water

Friday 13th May we held our mini “walk for water. The walk celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people around the world living without access to safe water. In Ireland most of us have access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. Everyone in the world should have this access. The ‘walk for water’ raises awareness about women and children around the world who walk an average of 6km a day to access water and have to carry it on their way back. Our mini ‘walk for water' symbolises this journey. On the mini ‘walk for water’ the 1st years, their prefects and teachers walked 3km and the student council and TY student’s stewarded the event. Along the way the students collected water in a bucket from the spout/spring near the river in Kilcullen. The students were exemplary and great ambassadors for our school. Thank you to everyone who supported us. As well as the walk we are fundraising to build a well for a community in a developing country. Access to a well would mean that the community would have access to safe water and the women and children would not have to walk to fetch it. As a result of this children (particularly girls) would have the opportunity to attend school instead. We are very close to our target of €1300. We just need €100 more. We would appreciate any donations. Thank you.
