Polytunnel Official Opening and Celebration

We were delighted to gather today in the sunshine to celebrate the official opening of our new Polytunnel.

We were joined by our 5A and 6A classes, their parents, teachers, Deputy Principals Ms Harney and Ms Reigh, Principal Mr Leonard, Board of Management Representatives, members of the local community and County Councillor Suzanne Doyle.

This year we introduced a new subject - Horticulture into our Leaving Cert Applied programme. We were delighted when the Board of management funded a brand new polytunnel for our students.

The area looks fantastic right now - vegetables and herbs growing and flowers are in bloom. The area around the polytunnel has also had a transformation. Our LCA students worked on pieces of Art to display and also painted and planted an old wheelbarrow. Our Leaving Cert Applied students are really enjoying this new subject, the space, and are learning important life skills along the way.

All of this amazing work is down to Clare Lamont and her dedication to the subject and space. We are all so thankful to Clare that has made an idea a reality! We are also very thankful to our wonderful 5th and 6th year LCA students who have worked hard getting the space ready and looking after all of the plants.

County Councillor Suzanne Doyle cut the ribbon and spoke about the importance of subjects such as these for our students and for our environment.

Everyone enjoyed visiting the polytunnel and some light refreshments this afternoon in this beautiful new space.

Thank you to all who attended.

Well done to the students and to their fantastic teacher Ms O Malley.

Todays lunch was a great success and we are all looking forward to the next one!

The CPC Drama Club performed “Macbeth in seventeen and a half minutes”

as part of the “Class Act” Post-Primary Drama Festival at the Moat

Theatre, Nass on Tuesday, 25th of March.

Ten schools from all over Ireland participated in the competition. The

competition was adjudicated by Anna Walker, who is a member of the

Association of Drama Adjudicators

CPC Drama Club was nominated for two awards: one for best ensemble and the

second for adjudicator's award. The club was thrilled to win the adjudicator’s

award for Kitmarie Hunter, Jake Byrne, and Kate Callanan's performances as

the three witches.

The play was directed by Ms O'Sullivan, assisted by Ms Flanagan.

In her adjudication, Ms Walker commented that the play was a humorous and

dramatic interpretation, and it was clear the cast enjoyed the experience. She

mentioned that the production successfully captured the mood of the play. The

movement of the opening scene was particularly well-rehearsed. The costumes

made an excellent addition to the production, and the cast's ensemble acting

was superb. She said there was a fantastic connection between the actors,

especially the witches. She noted the interaction between Macbeth, played by

Joey Crowley, and Lady Macbeth, played by Mackenna Lynch, was very effective

in their characterisations. Overall, she noted that it was obvious that there was

excellent teamwork between the cast and a very creative response to the play.

Twenty-five cast members were on stage, with some students playing multiple

roles. The cast included students from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year. TY student Eloise

Reddy was the stage manager and props assistant. Ryan Cady selected the

soundtrack for the production.

The students who took part in the production were Kitmarie Hunter, Jake

Byrne, Kate Callanan, Rhys Cornally, Casey O’Gorman, Marley Nolan, Ruth

Moloney, Ellie Phelan, Joey Crowley, Senan Delaney, Mackenna Lynch, Darragh

Dunne, Calum Reddy, Leonie Coffey, Aibhe Cady, Sophia Dempsey, Amy

McCormack, Ryan Cady, Promedie Konko, Amelia Reddy, Sarah Smyth, Ella

Fishbourne, Ava Nolan, Grace Ajibola-Craford and Conán-Roc O’Byrne.

The cast and crew are very grateful to the parents association, which

contributed to the cost of the production, along with Ms Harney, Ms O’Malley,

Mr Mann, and Ms Dolan, who created the costumes and props.
