Further information in relation to examination events over Easter from the SEC

Dear students and parents/guardians, this afternoon I have received the following from the SEC confirming the plans we had put in place over the past few days: "Entry of candidates for oral interviews Candidates who have not registered on the Candidate Self-Service portal, or who registered on the portal but did not complete their selection of subjects and levels, can present for the oral interview. The details of these candidates must be added onto the ‘Candidate Entry Roll. as described in section 4 page 8 of SEC Circular 13/21. Candidates who had opted out of the written examinations and selected accredited grades only, and who now want to opt back in to sit the written examinations, should be facilitated by schools in undertaking their oral interview(s) as long as the oral interview takes place within the original time window (26 March to 15 April). The details of these candidates must be added onto the ‘Candidate Entry Roll” as described in section 4 page 8 of SEC Circular 13/21. Late orals in this circumstance are not permitted. When the portal reopens at end April/early May, candidates can update their choices to reflect their participation in the orals. (Note they will not be able to add new subjects). Extensions for oral interviews are only available to candidates who are unable to attend due to illness an on the provision of medical certification." Thank you to all students and/or parents who have contacted me to notify of a change of plan either opting in to take an oral interview or opting out. Please be assured that if you emailed me to opt out I have received it - there will be no reply to each individual email, it is for the record only. If there has been no change in your intentions then there is no need to contact me. In addition, the SEC has advised the following: "School Transport. With regard to school transport, and under the terms of the Department of Education’s School Transport Scheme, school transport services for eligible children generally operate during the standard school year to facilitate a child’s attendance during normal school opening and closing times only. The LC Music performance tests and the LCA Tasks are taking place over the Easter holidays and the designated period for the Oral Language interviews includes evenings, weekends and the Easter Holidays; time periods during which the School Transport Scheme is not operational. For public health reasons, and as these events are of short duration in schools, it would not be appropriate to have a normal school transport system in operation." If any student is (a) eligible for school transport under the terms of the Department’s School Transport Scheme and is (b) availing of school transport in the current school year and (c) has to attend for an examination event over the Easter holidays and (d) will have no possible way of getting to the school, please let me know immediately. I would like to wish all students engaging in examination events over the Easter holidays the very best of luck. Kind regards J Leonard

I would like to wish all students, staff members, parents/guardians and your loved ones a safe and enjoyable Easter break. We look forward to welcoming back all of our students on April 12th. I would like to thank everybody for playing their part in ensuring that the phased reopening of the school has gone so well. As we enter a period of holiday the Department of Education has sent the following message: "It is important that we all continue to follow public health advice and limit our contacts during this period in order to minimise any opportunity for the virus to spread within our families and our communities. The Government and the Department will continue to support this with public health messaging to parents and students on the need to abide by the public health advice, emphasising hygiene practices, social distancing and recognising symptoms of Covid. Particular attention will be paid to the issue of socialising and playdates. In relation to school transport and in advance of the return after the Easter break, Bus Eireann will issue reminders to bus contractors, parents and students of their obligations to adhere rigorously to public health recommendations developed for school transport. Social distancing on post primary services of 50% capacity has now been achieved on virtually all routes on the post-primary scheme and for post-primary provision on the SEN scheme." I would echo this appeal to follow public health advice and limit our contacts so that we can reopen fully on April 12th. I look forward to a successful final term and brighter times ahead. J Leonard

Tomorrow, the 26th of March, marks the annual Le Chéile Day. In celebration of this, Le Chéile has organised a 'Drop Everything and Pray' initiative which invites all 74 Le Chéile Schools to join together virtually at 10:00 am tomorrow for a short prayer service. The prayer service will take less than 15 minutes and will conclude with the virtual student choir (which some of our own students have been involved in) singing the Le Chéile hymn. It is the hope that 35,000+ Le Chéile students around the country would pause to pray and reflect together at this time, creating a sense of unity. If you wish to join us at 10:00am tomorrow, you can do so by clicking the link below. LINK: vimeo.com/529214325

Dear students and parents/guardians, as you know, the Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) is currently closed and students can not access or alter the entries they made ahead of its closure on March 16th. In the guide sent to you on 9th March, advice was given for students to keep their options open pending the release of further changes being made to examination papers which were published and sent to you on March 23rd. It is possible that since students made their entries on the CSSP that they have changed their mind, either to not sit an examination or to sit an examination. Given that oral interviews will take place over the Easter holidays and there will be no other opportunity to complete an interview it is essential that we know exactly who wishes to be facilitated to complete an interview. Therefore, if a student registered to sit the examination in Irish, French, German, Spanish, Japanese or Russian and now wishes to withdraw from this they (if 18 or over, if under 18 a parent please) should email me to state that they are withdrawing from the examination in whatever subject applies. If a student did not register to sit an examination in Irish, French, German, Spanish, Japanese or Russian and now wishes to, they should email me immediately so that arrangements can be made to accommodate an oral interview for them. In both cases please email joeleonard@cpckilcullen.com When the CSSP opens again in late April/early May students will be able to adjust their selections as necessary to reflect this. Please note that the SEC updated their guidance yesterday evening around the oral interviews and face masks are compulsory for students and teachers throughout the interview. The dates confirmed for the orals so far are: French/German 29th and 30th March Japanese 7th April Irish 8th April Kind regards J Leonard
