The native bluebells planted by the staff in October are starting to flower. These were put in as part of our biodiversity initiative and with funding from the Kilcullen Credit Union. The hope is that they will develop into a lovely blue carpet like many of the woods in Kildare are famous for, and will be a further amenity for the school and town. Attached are some beautiful photos of the bluebells taken by Ms. Higgins and some spectacular views from our small woods before the bluebells came into bloom taken by Mr. Potterton. The public are more than welcome to take a walk in our small woods outside of school hours (9am-4pm) to enjoy the nature.

June Fest Poetry Competition

Poetry competition open to people of all ages resident on the Island of Ireland – with a prize fund of €780. Full details are set out in the attachment As a former post-primary principal, I am very aware that there are a lot of budding poets in post-primary schools. Indeed, only this week I read a stunning poem by a 15-year-old that will probably never be read by other than some of his immediate family. Unlike other areas of interest such as sport, poets have very few opportunities to showcase their talent. Nor do they receive any great support or encouragement from the wider society. In recognition of this, June Fest, in Newbridge is running a poetry competition as part of its 2021 festival. Full details will be on the new June Fest Website (www.junefest.ie/) later in the the month when it is launched. Many thanks for your kind assistance in this matter. Kind regards Pat O’Mahony June Fest Secretary
