Autism Acceptance Week

We had a super week jam packed with activities for Autism Acceptance week last week in CPC. The theme this year was colour, so we started the week by putting up colourful posters all around the school with lots of information on Autism. We also ran a poster competition for the students, and there were some really fabulous creations promoting Autism Acceptance. On Wednesday, we ran a gaming club in Room 16 to promote integration with the students in mainstream. On Thursday, we held our parents' coffee morning in room 26, which was a great success as the students had the opportunity to show their families all the work they have completed this year so far. We finished the week out with a colourful wacky hat day on Friday. Our staff took part in a step challenge all week and Mr Blanchfield, Mr Mann and Ms Mulligan are running 150km throughout the month to raise money for this year's chosen charity which is Autism Assistance dogs Ireland. A big thank you to our wonderful Ty students from the Buddy Club who were on hand to help throughout the week.

Fifth Year and TY students had the opportunity to visit the National University of Ireland Maynooth today. After a general introduction to the university and its facilities, students were given a campus tour by Maynooth University Student Ambassadors. After lunch they visited the Economics Department where they met with Head of Department Dr Aedin Doris, lecturers Dr Alex Farnell, Dr Tuvana Pastine and Shaun McDonnell. It was a very interesting experience and we are very appreciative to Mr Dowling for organising it.
