Congratulations to Seán Donoghue who won a gold medal in the 1500m U15 race at the Dublin championships recently, also to Finn Burke Power who came second in the 200m and third in the 400m U18 races. Congratulations is due to past-pupil Pierre Murchan who won the Junior Men's 3000m championship in Santry on Saturday 24 June 2016. Best wishes to Daire Finn (800m), Finn Burke Power (400m) and Pierre Murchan (1500m) who will all compete in the National Juniors/U23 competition in Tullamore next weekend (2 - 3 July 2016).
Lord Mayor of Dublin - Brendan Carr

Congratulations to Brendan Carr who has been elected to the office of first citizen of Dublin tonight. He is a Councillor for the Cabra/Finglas area and has served for over twelve years on the city council. It is a huge honour for Brendan who was formerly Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin. He is the 347th Lord Mayor of the city, a position which was created in 1665 by Charles II. The office of Mayor existed prior to that since June 1229. The Lord Mayor holds office for one year and resides officially in Dublin's Mansion House. We wish him every success in the year ahead and offer our sincerest congratulations to both himself and his family.

Congratulations to the St Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh hurling féile team who won the All-Ireland title last weekend in Tipperary. They beat Oranmore of Galway in the final by three points. Oranmore had beaten them in the group stage earlier in the weekend.. It is a fantastic achievement for all the players, their families, management team and the club. We wish them continued success for the future. Best wishes to Stephen Cushen who is taking a break from his Junior Certificate examinations this weekend to participate in the Coderdojo Coolest Projects event at the RDS. Over 10,000 people are expected to attend the event, with participants aged between 7 - 17 from all around Ireland and Europe showcasing their work. The event takes place today, Saturday, and entry is free. Tickets can be booked on the Coolest Projects website. Over twenty students from St Declan's have volunteered to help out with the event.
Br Willie Morgan

The death has occured of Br Willie Morgan, late of St Declan's College and Lahinch Co. Clare. Br Morgan was one of the first teachers in St Declan's and had connections with the school from its opening right through until the present day. He was very involved in setting up athletics and basketball in the school and enjoyed great success with teams and individual sportsmen. He taught in St Declan's at various times during the 1960's, 70's 80's and 90's. During his last stage of work here he was Career Guidance teacher and was one of the pioneering members involved in the Rainbow progamme. This programme supports children and young people affected by loss because of bereavement, seperation or divorce. Br Morgan died following a short illness. He will be reposing at Linnane's Funeral Home, Ennistymon Co Clare on Friday 17 June 2016 from 6.00pm followed by removal to Ennistymon church at 8.00pm. His funeral mass will take place on Saturday, 18 June 2016 at 12 noon. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the Old Cemetery in Ennistymon. May he rest in peace.

Glo Health Leinster Schools' Track & Field Championships 2016

Congratulations is due to two of our students who did extremely well on the athletics front last week. Seán Donoghue won a gold medal on Wednesday at the Glo Health Leinster Schools' championships. Seán came first in the minor boys 1100m race and will compete in the All-Ireland series. On Saturday, on day 2 of the championships, Dáire Finn competed in the 800m and 1500m inter boys race winning silver in both. This is a fantastic achievement in what proved to be two highly competitive races.
Leinster Junior Shield Soccer Champions

Congratulations to the U17 soccer team who won the Leinster Junior Shield Final yesterday. The game ended 1-1 aet with Arklow CBS scoring a last minute goal. Penalties followed. Ryan O'Neill made a magnificent save from Arklow's first attempt. Advantage St Declan's. Niall Blaney showed nerves of steel to put away the final penalty bringing the title home to Nephin Road. Well done to all the team and their manager, Mr McGlue.

Congratulations to the TY students of the MiniCompany Easy Educate, who represented St. Declan's College in the National Final of the PDST Get Up and Go Awards, a competition entered by over 6,000 students nationally. The students received 2nd prize in the category of Sustainability. Well done!
