Last Wednesday, the Phoenix Park hosted the annual Muck Run inter schools race organised by Brigid Corrigan from Mount Sackville Secondary School. It is part of their school's Healthy Living Week. The aim is for students from different schools to have fun and socialise by partaking in a physical team activity. In shocking weather conditions the participants plodded their way through a course of climbs and descents that truly lived up to its name. However, the rain mud and slippy underfoot conditions at the Knockmarron gate added to the sense of challenge and fun experienced by all. One of our teams came third and all thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. Many thanks to Mr Burke for organising our teams and looking after them on the day.

Congratulations to Cal O'Driscoll (3 Osborne), his fellow actors and the production crew of a short film 'Brother' which won the audience award at the IFI on Wednesday. The film was written and directed by Seán Treacy and was entered into the Fresh film festival last January. Running since 1997, Fresh Film Festival is a year round organisation. The annual festival includes its competitive event 'Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year' which screens films made by young people aged between 7 and 18 years. The Film Festival's main aim is to encourage young people to make films. 'Brother' is based on the story of two kids from different backgrounds who are forced to spend an uncomfortable amount of time together over a Summer. They grow into a realisation of how little it takes to become best friends. The film has been put forward by the judges to the national finals which take place in Limerick in a fortnights time. We wish them continued success.

St Declan's College will re-open tomorrow morning Tuesday 6th February 2018, as normal, following the closures caused by Storm Emma and Met Eireann's status red weather warnings. The school yard had been covered in a deep snow drift making it impossible to gain entry. Thank you to all the parents, staff, students and past students who voulunteered to help clear a mountain of snow today when assistance was requested. Everyones contribution was appreciated. The school was open today from 2.00pm for any 6th or 3rd year student who wished to come in and study. It is extremely important that all students remain focused on their studies and work to make up for the time lost.
