Double Success for Coláíste Muire Choir!

On Sunday evening, 23rd October at the Closing Gala Concert of City of Derry International Choir Festival - the Coláiste Muire School Choir were announced as the winners of the "Bishops Daly and Mehaffey Award for an outstanding performance in the school competitions". The award was presented by the Derry inner city trust. This was in addition to their Silver Award at the competitions on Friday.  The choir performed Daniel, Servant of the Lord and a setting of the poem My Love is like a red red rose by Scottish poet Robbie Burns for an international panel of adjudicators at the Millenium Forum in Derry on Friday last. Congratulations to all involved, this is a wonderful achievement for our school choir, which has 71 students participating.  Sincere thanks to Mr O'Connor and Ms Heaney-McGreal for their time and dedication to the choir over the past number of weeks.

TY Surf Trip

Our TYs are enjoying their first excursion today learning to surf in Strandhill.  Conditions look great for these surf novices!!  Thanks to Strandhill Surf School for an enjoyable experience for our students!

Congratulations to Conor, Lisa and Mark on their successes in Fleadhanna during the summer. 

Conor's achievements include:

Connacht champion in 15-18 years Flute,  15-18 years Drums, 15-18 years Duet and 15-18 years Trio.  Conor also came second at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann All Ireland finals  (Mullingar) in 15-18 years Flute, Duet and Trio competitions.
 
Lisa's achievements include:
All-Ireland champion at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in 12-15 years Flute (Slow Airs) and second in Connacht in the 12-15 years Duet competition. 
 
Mark's achievements include:
 
Connacht champion in 15-18 years Uilleann Pipes, 15-18 years Uilleann Pipes Slow Airs and 15-18 years Tin Whistle Slow Airs.  Mark also came second at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann All Ireland finals  in Uilleann Pipes Slow Airs.
 
We are so fortunate to have this level of musical talent among us along with all our music students who we look forward to hearing from in our choir and trad music group over the coming year.

Connaught Boys Handball U-14 Success

Congratulations to Colin Finn, 3rd year and his handball partner Travis Gibbons on their success at Connaught level in the Under-14 Boys doubles.  The boys beat Galway opponents from Moycullen by two games to nil.  Well done Colin!

Congratulations to Cormac Finn, 2022 All-Ireland Minor Handball Softball winner! Cormac also won the All-Ireland Minor 4-Wall title back in March. A double celebration this weekend as Cormac also received his outstanding Leaving Cert results on Friday last. Congratulations Cormac and best wishes for the future!

School Choir Competition - Best of Luck!

We wish our school choir the very best as they travel to Derry on Friday 21st October for the City of Derry International Choral Festival.

The choir will participate in the competition for 3 and 4-part secondary school choirs and will also participate in the Post-Primary School Big Sing workshop with Finnish choral group Rajaton. This will all take place at the Millenium Forum in Derry.

In the afternoon the Coláiste Muire Choir will perform at the Foyleside shopping centre. 

Well done to all involved who have spent many evenings after school rehearsing and preparing and sincere thanks to Mr. O'Connor and Ms. Heaney McGreal who have worked with the choir this term to prepare them for the festival.
