Congratulations to our school choir on their achievement last evening in Council Buildings - our choir were nominated and selected for An Cathaoirleach's 'Arts & Culture' award for 2022. One of only 8 awards issued by An Cathaoirleach annually, this is a prestigious occasion for our students and their choir leaders Mr O'Connor and Ms. Heaney McGreal. Thank you to Sarah, Malachi and Kelly who represented our 75-strong choir at the presentation on Wednesday 1st February. This was a wonderful conclusion to our CEIST Ceiliúradh Day yesterday given that a number of our choir were part of the playing of 'Tamhair dom do Lámh' to over 108 CEIST school Principals and Boards of Management last February 1st, 2022.
This is not the last we will see of our choir this year, who will travel to Dublin on 3rd March to take part in the Wesley College Choral Festival - go n-eirí an t-ádh libh!
Prior to Covid lockdowns, our school had the wonderful opportunity of engaging with Pieta to promote positive mental health in our school. The hard work of our 'Amber flag' committee paid off and Pieta presented our school with an Amber Flag for positive mental health awareness. Today, we launched this flag to acknowledge the wonderful work that continues in our school to support our students.
Heartiest congratulations to past pupil, Michael Lavin on his success on the soccer field. Michael has recently been signed for Ipswich Town Football Club! You can read more about Michael's journey here.
We recently held a non-uniform day to support Veronica Feehily in her MS treatment journey. Veronica's daughter Shayah and her friends organised the event and we thank all students who donated to raise a grand total of €680! Shayah and her friend Grace are pictured with Veronica who came to the school to accept the donation.
Congratulations to Mark Dunleavy, Conor McDonagh and Lisa Golden who were recently nominated for a 'Spirit of Sligo' award with the Cathaoirleach of Sligo Co. Co. Mr. O'Connor nominated the trio following their success at the Fleadh during the summer of 2022. The Cathaoirleach issued a certificate of nomination to the students! Well done on your achievement!
Students lighting our CEIST candle this morning to begin our CEIST Ceiliúradh Day celebrations. CEIST Ceiliuradh Day, which we celebrate today is a new annual event which we share with 108 other schools around the country who are under the CEIST trusteeship like ourselves. Today marks the 16th anniversary of the day we joined the CEIST trust, prior to this we were known as a Mercy school founded by the Sisters of Mercy.
The word Ceiliuradhmeans a celebration and today, we celebrate the theme of ‘One Good Deed’. We would ask you all to remember this throughout the day and later at home and think about doing something positive for a friend/neighbour/family member.
Our first year students have been very busy during their RE lessons creating beautiful St. Brigid's Day crosses from local rushes.
Thank you to our first years who have been busy for the past couple of days gathering rushes to make St. Brigid's Day Crosses. It is lovely to see this tradition continuing among our young people.
St. Brigid's Day Blessing:
May Brigid bless the house wherein we dwell.
Bless every fireside, every wall and door.
Bless every heart that beats beneath its roof.
Bless every hand that toils to bring its joy.
Bless every foot that walks portals through.
May Brigid bless the house that shelters us.
