97% Third Level Progression Rate

The Irish Times Feeder Schools 2019 Guide has reported a 97% third level progression rate for Dominican College students in 2019. This figure does not include students who went to university outside Ireland such as in the UK or USA.
6th Year Graduation

Well done to our fabulous 6th Years who celebrated their graduation from Taylors this afternoon. As with most things of late, the ceremony was online. The girls' lives over the past 5-6 years in Dominican College were remembered and celebrated in word, picture and video. The girls will be very much missed in the school next year and we wish them every success and happiness into the future.
Leaving Cert Student €1,500 Bursary

Each year St. Anthony's & Claddagh Credit Union award a €1,500 bursary to a student from Dominican College going to college or university (they also do this for the other secondary schools in Galway City). School Book Grant Application Form

The Department of Education & Skills has allocated a limited amount of funding to the school to provide a school book grant for eligible parents for the 2020/21 school year. This grant is available to the parents of students with a valid in-date medical card (GP only cards are not acceptable). Applications may also be made by parents without a medical card if there are exceptional circumstances. Please see the relevant section of the school website at www.taylorshill.ie/education/book-lists.php for the links to the online forms. The closing date for applications is 5pm Wednesday 10th June 2020.

Grace is National Indoor Rowing Champion!

A very big congratulations to 1st Year student Grace Fannon who became the All-Ireland Junior 13 Indoor Rowing Champion last weekend. In doing so she beat almost 50 other competitors from rowing clubs across the 32 counties. This competition saw elite national rowers, including Paul O'Donovan and Sanita Puspure (the reigning world champion in the women's single scull) compete in their respective categories. This success was a tremendous achievement so well done Grace!!
Refund of Junior and Leaving Cert Fees

The State Examinations Commission has processed the refund of Junior and Leaving Cert fees. The refunds were processed on May 26th for all candidates who paid the examination fee online. Refunds will go back to the card/account which was used to pay the fee. The process can take up to 7 days to process. If candidates have not received the refund by June 10th , they should email fees@examinations.ie with their exam number.
Students who do the Leaving Cert in grind schools less likely to complete college or get good degree grades

Today's Irish Independent reports a study from the Higher Education Authority that shows that students who do their Leaving Cert in grind schools rather than traditional schools perform worse in college and university. Students from grind schools are less likely to complete their degree courses and are less likely to get a 2:1 or a first-class degree. The report finds that in relation to college completion and getting a good degree, "grind schools do considerably worse than average". TY Graduation

Well done to all our TYs who finished Transition Year today with an online graduation assembly. It was a lovely occasion with reminiscences from representatives from each of the TY classes, as well as Ms. Garrett, Ms. Callinan, Mr. Drea and Mr. Kinsella. The girls put together video montages of their year which showed gave a great overview of their experiences, learning and fun. Well done girls and have a great summer.
