Elma Walsh, mother of the late Donal Walsh (RIP), spoke to our fifth year RE classes. She told the story of Donal's illness with cancer and terminal diagnosis and highlighted the positive efforts he made to live his life to the fullest. Her message was of hope and resilience in the face of adversity and stress in life. Elma had memorised Donal's letter about having the choice to continue in life and encouraged students to seek the emotional and spiritual help that is available to them when faced with challenging issues. Many thanks to James McGloughlin, Clogher don Óige for facilitating this talk today. Students Brian McAteer and Jack Graham are photographed here making a floral presentation to Elma on behalf of the year group with their RE teachers Ms. Deirbhil Brady and Ms. Áine Malone.

During Catholic Schools Week, Transition year students organised an appeal for the homeless. This appeal tied in with the Catholic Schools Week theme of 'reaching out to others' and the TY students asked the school community to donate 'day to day' items for people who are homeless and needy. In the usual spirit of generosity the school community rose to the challenge and brought in numerous essential items including toothpaste, toothbrushes, first aid items, toiletries, gloves, hats to name a few. Individual bags filled with day to day necessities have now been packed for men, women and children and will be distributed through Castleblayney Trust For Homeless and the Simon Community over the coming days. Thank you to students, parents and staff for your support and generosity.
