A Thuismitheoirí Dhíl
With the closing of schools on Thursday last, we have commenced a very different educational experience for your sons, our students.
As you are aware, we plan to continue class to the best of our ability using the Google Education suite. This will challenge students, parents and teachers alike.
Teachers will plan classes according to your son’s timetable. The material to be covered will be made available using Google Classroom. This is an online product that your son has used since he joined St. Macartan’s.
Google Classroom may be accessed using a computer, laptop or a mobile device.
An online class may be structured as follows,
Input from the teacher. This may be by way of Google Hangouts, a Google Slides presentation, a presentation using a voiceover, a video or an audio recording.
Tasks set for students. Students may be asked to send typed work to teachers or photographs of work which can be shared by email.
Teacher interaction with students with questions and feedback using a Google document which will be open to all students in the class. Teachers will set time with students whereby they may interact online.
The coming weeks will require quite an amount of maturity from and trust in our students. We need our students to engage with each class as presented by the teacher and the work set.
Teachers will also need the help and support of parents and guardians at this time. We need parents to ensure that our students engage with our efforts to continue learning and teaching online.
If you feel that your son is not engaging properly with our online learning programme, please contact the school at admin@stmacartanscollege.ie and a member of staff will be in contact. Similarly when a teacher feels that a student is not engaging properly, they may wish to speak with parents.
If you feel that your son needs additional support during these challenging times, please contact our Guidance teachers, adalton@stmacartanscollege.ie or greilly@stmacartanscollege.ie
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the school at admin@stmacartanscollege.ie.
Take care,
Is mise
