The use of social media apps continues to become a bigger part of young peoples' lives. Although, we have an OFF AND AWAY mobile phone policy in our school, we continue to see incidents of poor decision making when it comes to communication online. Sometimes, this can result in the issue becoming a factor that impacts negatively on the school experience of another student(s). At school we have regular lessons, assemblies and talks about appropriate and respectful social media use.
As was highlighted at the August year groups meeting, a reminder that as part of the ongoing work by the school, our students know when using social media, it is never kind, respectful or appropriate to take or share pictures of others online without their fully informed consent.
Our students also know that they are never permitted to take photos of others in school, or to use their phones in school to airdrop (iphone) photos or share images on social media apps (Snapchat etc.) during school time.
Our students also know that we have an OFF AND AWAY mobile phone policy in place in school and for any school activity.
Please find in the pdf attached, information from TUSLA about appropriate and more importantly, safe internet use.
"The best online safety strategy, regardless of age, is to talk with your child and to engage with them about what they are doing and who they are doing it with. Much of the information published in this booklet has been adapted from content first published on the Webwise.ie website. You can visit the Webwise Parenting Hub (webwise.ie/parents) to find more supports including video interviews with experts, talking points on topics that are difficult to discuss with your child, articles explaining new apps and technologies, and lots more"
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Vaping is an emerging risk to the health of children and young people. The purpose of the communication attached from the HSE is to better inform and support parents and guardians to protect children and young people from the harms of vaping.
Vaping and smoking continue to be strictly forbidden in HFSS, whilst students are in HFSS uniform and on HFSS school grounds.
Unfortunately our phone lines are down at present. Please contact the school at <3>reception@holyfamily.ie for any urgent matters. Sorry for this inconvenience.
Please see the attached letter for return to school updates.
We look forward to starting the new school year together. In the meantime, enjoy the last few days of the school holidays.
Sending all in our school community kindest regards,
Sarah Allen
