Anti Bullying Survey for Parents

Incidents of bullying, in many forms, do happen in all schools. It is always an affront to the basic human right for each individual to be respected within our society. Bullying can have a devastating and tragic effect on those subjected to it. Despite some efforts to deal with this problem, it remains the number one subject of calls received to NPCPP’s Parent support line. NPCPP are pursuing the introduction of an Anti-Bullying Programme in every school and are working with the Department of Education to finalise a report and strategy to properly inform and train the whole school community to implement a culture of non-acceptance of bullying. Please take just five minutes to complete this anonymous survey, candidly, so that we can reflect your experiences right up to date. Thank you. TY Horticulture and Self Sufficiency

Ms Cashin along with her TY Horticulture and Self Sufficiency classes had a busy first term in the garden. We started off by tidying up and re-organising the tunnel after the long hot Summer. A special thank you to Fr O'Connor for watering our thirsty cauliflowers and rhubarb during the Summer break! We harvested some lovely caulies that we were able to deliver to the home economics department in the last few weeks. We also learned how to sub-divide and take house plant cuttings and made lots of new plants for use around the school. The biggest achievement was designing and delivering a brand new TY garden for one of our internal courtyards in the school. Formerly a concrete wasteland, the TYs have transformed it in to a little oasis with bird feeders kindly donated by the woodwork department, a herb bed, a fig tree, a hazel tree, calicarpa bush and crab apple tree, orange scented geranium and a beautifully colourful flower bed designed to attract pollinating insects. Many thanks to Mr C. Walsh for all his help lifting bags of compost, to Mr Forrestall and his enthusiastic TY helpers for assembling the raised beds, to Mr Cosgrave for his expert horticultural advice, to Mr Kavanagh and Mr M. Phelan for their help hanging up the bird feeders, to the management and staff who kindly encouraged our efforts and to all the TYs who took part so willingly. It was a great success and you should be very proud of your garden. Lastly, fair play to the TY boys who braved the blustery conditions on Monday to set some more daffodil bulbs along the bank at the front of the school. Fr O'Connor has been working on setting an unbroken line of daffodils along this perimeter for many years, a special sight we all enjoy in the Springtime. Hopefully the weather will be a bit better for gardening next week! TYs, don't forget to bring rain jackets and an old pair of runners or boots to Horticulture and Self Sufficiency classes from now on!
