Dear Parents of Third Year Students, Due to disruptions in learning in 2020 and in 2021, and, because of school closures introduced to curtail the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment has issued revised arrangements for the completion of Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs) for students sitting Junior Cycle examinations in 2023. A summary of the revised arrangements are as follows: · Students must complete a minimum of one CBA in each subject. For most subjects, students have already completed CBA 1 in second year. · Students from this cohort will not be required to complete ‘Assessment Tasks’. The Assessment Task is a written assignment which would normally be completed in school after CBA 2 in third year. In ‘normal’ circumstances, the Assessment Task would be submitted to the State Examinations Commission for external marking along with the students’ written examinations in June. This means that the Junior Cycle results issued by the State Examinations Commission are solely based on the students’ performance in their written and/or practical exams, depending on the subject. · Students studying Visual Art, Home Economics, Music, Graphics and Wood Technology must complete CBA 2 in these subjects, as they are linked in each case with the final examination. Students must also complete CBA 2 (Communicative Task) in Gaeilge. For the most part, our current Third Year students have completed most of their Classroom-Based Assessments. Attached is the schedule for the conduction of remaining assessments for this academic year.
