Congratulations to our 6 TY students that travelled to Thomond Park Conference Centre in Limerick today. Earlier in the year 2 TY groups from the Friary submitted a video and we are so proud that both videos were selected and the two groups were called for interview. This exciting competition, which is run by Certified Irish Angus Beef Producers with partners ABP and Kepak, challenges students to rear five Irish Angus calves over 18 months while completing a research project. One group Sarah Buckley and Lisa Dunwoody focused on promoting Angus and wish to see it the popular choice of consumers, while our other group Aoife Broderick, Sara Donnelly, Ciarán Cotter and Oisín Power looked at Farm Health and Safety. Both groups were put through their paces at the 30 minute interview today. This alone is a fantastic opportunity and a life skill that will stand to them going forward. As we were leaving Thomond we met a past pupil Conor Norris and we were delighted to be brought on a tour of the stadium by Conor. We even got the opportunity to walk on the pitch the hallowed ground of Munster Rugby. Finally just to wish the 6 TYs the very best of luck as they have made a great effort so far and we patiently wait to hear the news in February if we get through to the next stage.

TY New Year Prayer Service

On Tuesday at 12.35pm all TY students gathered in St Monica's Chapel. They had a beautiful prayer service and the Sacrament of Reconciliation was celebrated bringing about a change of heart through God's mercy and forgiveness.
Colin Keith read as various students brought gifts to the altar as symbols for the new year ahead. Danny O Connor read a New Year Prayer allowing the students time to reflect and consider the year ahead.
Students enjoyed time to be still to pay particular attention to God's many blessings upon us, especially those we so easily take for granted in the course of our busy lives. The rapid, hectic pace of our lives, the multitude of activities we are engaged in, the frenetic movement from one thing to the next, the preoccupations of the moment and our planning for the future, the demands placed upon us and the demands we place on ourselves: all this blurs our vision of what surrounds us and exists within us. Students paused in silence from all their distractions to be mindful of the abundant blessings that envelope us.
The prayer service ended by praying The Lords Prayer. Many thanks to Fr Gerry for conducting the new year prayer service and to the students 6 TY teachers for joining their class group in the Chapel.
