Artifice is an innovative schools programme which has been run by Lismore Castle Arts since 2010. The programme supports teachers and transition year students to create artistically ambitious works inspired by a specific theme. This year’s Artifice exhibition will be held virtually from March 11th to the 14th. A number of our TY students collaborated to create two pieces in response to the theme of Land Art. Many thanks to Ms Coffey for guiding and helping the students. The first piece is a tie dye collage that represents the microorganisms that exist all around us. This very colourful piece is created using fabric and batik dyes. The second piece is a photo collage. All photographs were taken by participants in a photography module before and during lockdown. Each photograph represents aspects of nature, such as the textures, lines and patterns. Participating students: Photography Collage: Kate Keogh Aoibhin Murray Eoin Veale Cathal Sullivan Conor Davidson Darragh Broderick Dylan Ahern Eddie Flavin Elise Knight Jack Kiely Kieran Hearn Rory Walsh Ryan O’Donnell Marc Mahony Clodagh McDermott Heidi Young Tie dye Collage: Jessica Beresford Conor Bohane Ben Buckley Eoin Buenaventura Brian Fox Ella Gantly Lyra Hall Saoirse Kelly Kate Keogh Ronan Meleady Emma Morrissey Aoibhin Murray Emilie O’Connor Keavy Osborne Fearghal Slevin Charlie Taylor Eoin Veale Clare Walsh Harvey Walsh Dominic Waters Kristers Zakis

Dear Parents/Guardian/Students As outlined in Circular 07/21 for 2021, the State Examinations Commission (SEC) has introduced a facility to allow Leaving Certificate candidates to confirm their subject and level entry details online through the Candidate Self Service Portal, and to indicate whether they want to take the examinations, or to receive SEC Accredited Grades, or both. The Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) is a service provided by the State Examinations Commission (SEC) and the Department of Education for 6th year candidates entered for the 2021 Leaving Certificate. Information will be provided in due course to schools about Year 1 Leaving Certificate Applied candidates (5th years). They are not included on the portal as this is not the final year of the programme and their information will be gathered directly from their school. The Candidate portal will open at 12 Noon on Wednesday 10 March and close at 6 pm on Tuesday 16 March. The Leaving Certificate Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) can be accessed at www.examinations.ie or www.gov.ie/LeavingCertificate. Click on ‘Leaving Certificate Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) 2021’. To assist Candidates the SEC has prepared a step by step ‘Before You Start Guide’ which is attached, and all candidates will need to have read this Guide and the important information before they commence the registration process on the Candidate Self Service Portal. The ‘Before you Start Guide’ updates the information provided in Circular 7/21 regarding candidates confirming that they want to sit examinations after the 16 March. Note please that it will be possible for candidates to update their choices at the end of April/early May to include indicating that they want to take an examination in a subject which they had opted out of taking. However, there are limitations on this choice as by the time the portal reopens candidates will have lost the opportunity to take any of the related assessment components in multi-component subjects. Please see attached, Leaving Certificate Short Information For Students, Parents and Guardians. and the 'Before You Start Guide’ If you have any questions please contact us. Kind regards Michael O Sullivan

Dear Students/Parents/Guardians, Leaving Certificate students will be given a six-day window from Wednesday the 10th of March 2021 to decide whether they want to take; 1. Examinations or 2. Receive accredited grades, or 3. Take both exam and accredited grades, in their chosen subjects. Please be aware of the following: ➢ The self-service portal will open from noon on Wednesday (March 10th) until 6pm on Tuesday (March 16th) 2021. ➢ Students must make sure that the subjects and levels listed are correct. ➢ Students doing an extra subject outside of school must ensure that the subject and level are also listed. ➢ It is recommended that students tick yes to both options; the examinations and accredited grades. ➢ It is very important to know that if a student decides now to opt out of doing the Written State Exam in June that they cannot opt back in. Students will not be able to apply to sit written exams beyond those selected after March 16th. ➢ Students will have an opportunity at the end of April/early May to withdraw their intention to take the written exams. ➢ Leaving certificate students opting to sit the written exams will be permitted to change their levels on the day of the exam, as they do in a normal year. ➢ When it comes to accredited grades, the levels selected for subjects by the students at the end of April/early May will be “absolutely final”. Oral exams: Oral exams for languages must be held during the Easter break or shortly afterwards between March 26th and April 15th. Cancelled: State Examinations has confirmed there will be no practical exam in construction studies. Students who sit the exams in construction will be graded based on the written and practical coursework components, with marks for the practical skills tests reallocated to the practical coursework. Important Deadlines. The completion dates for coursework for a range of subjects has also been finalised by SEC (State Examinations Commission). ➢ LCVP portfolio of coursework – March 12th ➢ Economics – March 15th ➢ Design and communication graphics – March 19th ➢ History – April 23rd ➢ Geography – April 23rd ➢ Agricultural science – April 23rd ➢ Politics and society – May 7th ➢ Art – May 20th ➢ Construction studies (project) – May 28th ➢ Home economics (textile studies elective) – May 28th Kind regards, Michael O’Sullivan
