Dear Parent/Guardian,

We hope your daughter is settling in well into secondary school and is benefitting from the many extra-curricular activities the school offers the first year.

We are contacting you to let you know about our school’s literacy policy. As you may be aware, part of the school’s literacy policy is to encourage our students to read for pleasure. Evidence suggests that reading is directly linked to improved literacy skills, improved focus and concentration as well as being a great way to relax.

We have introduced many initiatives to support and encourage your daughter to read, including a Book Club for first years, organised by our senior students.

This year the Book Club will take place on Wednesdays at lunch time in the library. Students will be given a chance to exchange ideas about books they enjoy, do book swaps. We enclose a recommended reading list, compiled by students.  It is often the suggestions from their peers that motivate students to read.

We ask you their parents/guardians to encourage your daughter to read at home. Please encourage her to keep a book in her school-bag that she can read if the opportunity arises.

We hope to create a space where reading is an enjoyable activity and to nurture a love of reading that will take your daughter through life.

We will start our first session on Wednesday, 1st  October at 1.10pm in the library.

Kind regards,
The Literacy Team

Yesterday, the athletics teams competed in Dublin cross country championships. The first-year girls team not only won the team event, but Laoise Kirwan finished 1st, Aoibheann O'Malley 2nd, and Saoirse Mc Carthy 3rd. This race had 173 runners from the county Dublin. Absolutely fantastic run and talent from the girls to achieve a 1, 2, 3 finishing.
Sarah Ryan in second year also received a medal for a top 20 performance out of 179 students.
Congratulations and well done to all the students who represented the school competing today.

School Self- Evaluation 2022-2026

Holy Faith Clontarf has been involved in a consultative process with parents, students and teachers on how to improve Learning and Teaching in our school. As a result of the consultations, we are improving our Assessment and Reporting systems.

This has involved looking at how we give feedback on learning in TY which has led to the introduction of the credit system in 2023-2024. After further consultation with all stakeholders at the end of the academic year, further modifications and improvements are being made this year 2024-2025.

We are also improving formative assessments practices for all year groups. These include practices such as reflection on learning, peer and self-assessment, the aim being to give students the tools to reflect on their own learning journey.

How you, the parents, can help is by encouraging your daughter to reflect on her own learning at home and to respond to surveys so we can have a better understanding of how we are doing.

Thank you to Ms Conlon, our SSE Coordinator, to the SSE Committee and to all of our staff who are involved in the process.
