TRIP TO COVANTA PLANT, POOLBEG
Created : 24 Nov 2023, 2:29 PM

Today the HFC Green school group took a trip to the Covanta plant in Poolbeg. Dublin waste to energy incinerator. The students learnt how the steam created from burning the waste is used to turn a turbine and generate electricity for 80,000 Dublin houses. This steam is then treated to remove all toxins and carbon, before it's released into our atmosphere.
They also learnt of the dangers of putting batteries and compressed gas containers in the general rubbish bin (risk of explosion), and the importance of recycling and composting.
Great educational day for the students.
